Got my Ritz card back in December and loving it so far. I'm curious though... did anyone get this card just to have it? What I mean by that is, I app'd for this card without caring about the benefits or ever planning to seriously use the points or stay at a Ritz hotel (I don't travel much, so I don't stay in hotels). I just wanted the card. The $395 anual fee is nothing to me, and well worth being able to carry around an awesome card like this (some people would argue that it's wasted money, or not a "smart" decision, but it only comes out to be $33 a month, and even less if I buy AA gift cards for the airline credit). Has anyone else app'd for this card knowing full well you're probably not going to use it's benefits?

I have been thinking about the Ritz Carlton card and this thread came up. I have to say that, I admire the OP's honesty. Quite some people pay the $450 annul fee for the "show". It is certainly fine if this makes them happy.

With my Chase CSR, I can't see myself with this card on a regular basis. Same with the AmEx Plat etc. Maybe only for the signing bonuses. I'll forego this heavy card for now....

If you have no use for the card now, I would definitely wait for some kind of Marriott Points bonus. You never know... They may actually have another 140k bonus sometime.

When you have a long stay planned, you can benefit from the Gold status, there is a decent bonus... jump.   :]

Re: Ritz Carlton

CSR is still considered NEW. I think when CSR came out, it effectively killed quite some hotel and airline CCs. Making them redundant. I do not know how many CSR CC were issued, but I believe quite a large number.

After I got CSR, I have chopped Citi AA, Chase Marriott and downgraded Chase United. Chase Southwest is on the chopping block now. I have limited business travel, but at most at the Hilton/Hyatt/Sheraton/Marriott level. And most time it is group travel/meeting and rooms are pre-booked with company rates. Trying to chop off all the AFs if we can.

Re: Ritz Carlton

Ritz card is redundant for me after the merger with SPG. I now get gold status from my Amex plat card. I'll still be keeping it just because who knows what will happen with the program.

I do regularly get gold status from nights now (rather than by spending 10k on the card) but it's worth it for me now with the $100 airfare discount.
