I plan on closing cards that I don't use or need and to not apply for any new cards . Not your normal strategy I suppose but it's what is best for my situation 👍

Re: *New* Setting Your >2023< Card Strategy

The only card I really want is the Amex Gold Delta. I've been doing a lot more traveling and that card would be great for my Skymiles and getting me in with AMEX. I plan to apply for that as soon as my scores hit 700, which I'm expecting in the next month or so once I pay off an old debt that's still being reported towards my util.

My Merrick and Mission Lane will double which is nice. I may look for a CLI on my Savor after 6 months.

After that, I will garden for at least a year as I look to possibly sell and buy a new house. I'm not looking for a ton of cards. Just enough to give me options and bandwidth for emergencies. When the time is right, I'll drop the low tier cards for higher ones. But I'm in no rush. I want to see my scores grow to 750+.

Capital One SavorOne: $3000 / Bank of America Unlimited Cash Rewards Visa Signature: $500 / Mission Lane: $2500 / Merrick: $2000 / CreditOne Amex: $850

Starting 09/2022 MyFico 08: EQ 648 / TU 659 / EX 644
Current MyFico 08: EQ 733 / TU 720 / EX 734

2024 EOY Goal: 750

Re: *New* Setting Your >2023< Card Strategy

Reached out to AMEX for retention offers for my Rose Gold and my Everyday Preferred and received no offers...so probably going to close the Rose Gold and downgrade the Everyday Preferred. No point in paying almost $350 in annual fees for cards that I won't put much spend through without bonuses.

Hilariously, they want me to upgrade my Rose Gold to the Platinum card, as if I wanna spend an additional $400+ lol

Amex Gold is almost a dining/groceries card with a high AF and to see whether it is worth, you should also consider the way that you redeem the points and afterward, compare the annual return with the other no AF cards in the market (~4-7% cash-back). One user in a similar treat did this. If the card does not work for you and since there is no option to downgrade it to a no AF card, it is the correct decision to close it.

Fico8: EX~EQ~TU~840 (12 month goal~850).
BOA (CCR, UCR), Chase (CFF, CSP, Amazon, CIC, CIU), US Bank (Cash+, AR, Go, Ralphs), Discover, Citi (CCC, DC, SYW), Amex (BCP, HH, Biz Gold, BBC, BBP), Affinity CR, Cap1(Walmart), Barclays View.

Depends on the offer. I got a 100k + 5x dining and groceries offer with 5k spend to do that upgrade. Since I was excluded from a Platinum SUB it was a slam dunk for me to take an offer that I valued at over 1k even including the increase in AF.

I just got off the phone DOWNGRADING that card to a Green, slightly a year later. Net result is I started with a Schwab Platinum, Rose Gold and a Green and st the end of the day it's what I have (upgraded existing Green for another 15k, got a retention offer for that Green for 15k).

If AMEX wants to throw a couple thousand of cash value in points my way I won't be saying no, but the value proposition has to work for you.

Charles Schwab AMEX Platinum NPSL | Amex Platinum (I know) NPSL | Amex Gold NPSL | First Tech FCU Choice Rewards World MC 35k | AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant 18k | AMEX Hilton Aspire 17.5k | Chase Southwest Priority Visa 15.5k | Bilt Rewards MC 14k | Capital One Venture X 13k | Fidelity VISA Signature 11.5k | Citi Custom Cash 11.9k | Citi Premier 8.9k | Chase Freedom Unlimited 9k | SoFi MC World Elite 8k | Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Red 8k | Capital One SavorOne 7.5k | Amazon/Synchrony 7.5k | Citi Custom Cash 6.9k | PayPal Synchrony MC 6.4k | DiscoverIt Cashback 5k | Hotels.com 5k | Apple Card 3k | Target 800 | Ch 13 filed 12/13 discharged as paid 1/19

Regardless of my app outcome next wk for Bilt and Aviator(can no longer wait), probably will app 1 more card after Jan. Ex inquiries(about 10, 1 yr) fall off. And that's it, no more cards.

I need no FTF Visa, probably Boa travel or PenFed?

Probably will close Synchrony and Tomo

Lol already just now got PenFed Power Cash lol, 3 cards in a week, 19th-25th today.

My future ideal lineup as written in 2022 thread:

-

Then my ideal future card lineup will be;

Disco it CB

Citi DC(or Penfed PowerCash or FNBO), CC

WF Bilt, Autograph

(if not, then Citi MileUP. I decided for now that AA is better for me than Delta; cheaper! Already have vastly more miles on the rewards program, compared to Delta miles)

USB Cash +

Affinity CR?

BOA Spirit(my main domestic airline lol)

-

So all~ going according to plan thus far Smiley LOL

Since I got Visa not gonna apply for Affinity, nor FNBO Evergreen, and do wanna get one more as planned, after all those 8 EX inqs wear off(1yr) in mid-Jan. For science! Smiley LOL

I wanna PC Citi DC to Rewards+ next April of so, and there's also an option of PCing my MileUp to CC after the 1st yr(October next yr of course). But I do wanna see if IW tennis tournament ticket will get 5% via CC in March, and since its sub is easier to get, might get that one.

I also do wanna get Autograph but since I just got Bilt, gotta wait for 6 months at least..?

Re: *New* Setting Your >2023< Card Strategy

This is a great thread @Aim_High. I've enjoyed everyone's perspectives. For me it's simple:

1. Garden, garden, garden.

2. Continue on mission to $10k as minimum cc limit. (Thru SP CLI or chopping)

3. Slide into AZEO. (Hoping to buy/build a farm next year and achieve my stated goal as my username suggests)

After the adventurous 2021 I had building up my current base of cards, I plan to garden for most of the year and then build my Navy and PenFed relationships and apply for cards with each of them. I also plan to continue asking for SP CLIs on my existing cards where available although I have stopped asking for CLIs on cards that have reached five figures as I currently don't need more than that on a particular card considering my current income level and spending patterns (sorry for those of you wondering if I can grow my Apple Card past $12K).

Well, I definitely spent most of 2022 in the garden but got an elevated CSP SUB instead of Navy/PenFed cards. Smiley Tongue

Anyway, I originally intended to garden until May when I would get a Platinum Spade and then maybe go for the Navy and PenFed cards. With that, I just noticed that the SUB is back on the NFCU More Rewards Amex until January 3rd so I might go for that. I'll also be under 5/24 in March and might go for another Chase card if there is a good SUB being offered. US Bank's upcoming offering could also be tempting depending on that card's SUB and whether or not it has an annual fee. EDIT: I just read that the card will have an AF. Smiley Sad Of course, SP CLIs will always be appreciated as well!

Not sure if you were aware of this welcome offer currently going on for the NFCU Flagship.  May be worth considering applying before it expires on 10/31/22.  I know for me I always make back my annual fee within the first few months each year.  The free year of Amazon Prime alone about covers the annual fee for the first 3 years now that Prime is $140 plus tax.  Definitely do what's best for you though! Best wishes to you should you decide to apply!

That's a nice offer for the Flagship but I wouldn't be able to meet the minimum spend right now! Smiley Sad
