Re: *New* Setting Your >2023< Card Strategy

I'm in a good place right now.  After burning Disco 9 yrs ago I'm back in and my only strategy in the near future is to stay in the garden, keep UTL low and see if I can push the mid to high 700's in to 800 territory when my BK drops off.  I have all the cards I need but that's not to say I won't get itchy next year.Smiley Wink

Update: My AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card has been downgraded to the Blue Cash Everyday. Going on 7 months of gardening now.

Re: *New* Setting Your >2023< Card Strategy

Midcourse correction time:

- Citi offered a different ATH SUB for a different card (Citi AA Platinum Select). I burned one of my 2 Chase slots for 2023 for this because it's 75k AA miles I know I can use for $0 AF, and...

- Just got off the phone with Citi, turned the AA MileUp into a Custom Cash. The 5x will be handy paired with the Premier...

- AMEX offered me 75k for 6k of spend to turn my Gold that was a Green (and I got 25k for upgrading) into a Platinum.

So it's back to two Platinums again because this is net positive value (I probably should just ditch the Green, except there's a lot of rental car charges ahead, hmm). I can use a good chunk of the second Platinum credits so...

(Me as Al Pacino in Godfather III going "Just when I thought I was out, THEY DRAG ME BACK IN" to AMEX)

Anyways thanks to dental work (ouch) and planned expenses the order of business for the rest of the year is:

- Finish AA PS SUB

- Finish AMEX Platinum SUB

- Probably kill off AMEX Green this month since items 1/2 could soak up that card's spend for now, with some going to the Premier (and I could use my Bilt card anyway, the one thing I might lose is some train/transit/parking 3x)

- After 1/2 are done, sometime around October, grab a CSP or maybe the IHG business card, whichever SUB looks sweetest, and start moseying into the Chase ecosystem

- in December decide if the Custom Cash + Premier combo is worth the $95 for another year (maybe as a backfill travel earning for the Green with the Bilt/CSP cards?) or just downgrade the Premier to something (another Custom Cash).

This time last year, my mantra was "No new cards in 2022!"

Um, about that, I got the FOTM Evergreen, I mean FNBO Evergreen in January. I only went for it because of the high limit it promised in the pre-qual. I have no major gripes about it so far though. When I got that, I said "No new cards for one year (365 days)." Then I got the Citi Custom Cash in July. Hey, I made it half a year. Great card I had on my to-get list anyway, I just got it a little earlier than originally planned.

My 0% period expires on my Evergreen and Autograph in January and February respectively. I'm working hard to pay those off ASAP. Custom Cash is 0% until October, so I'm not worried about it except for not letting it get too out of hand and making my credit reports look bad.

January 16 I will be 0/6, 1/12, 4/24. I tentatively plan to wait until February 1, just to be safe, and apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Depending on what bonus/incentives/improvements happen between now and then, I could possibly go for the Sapphire Reserve. It wouldn't take much to push me towards the Reserve. But the Preferred seems like the better fit for me right now.

[EDIT: Approved for the CSP on Jan 20.]

Six months after that I will again be 0/6, 1/12, 4/24. I intend to get the US Bank Cash+.

[EDIT: Approved for the Cash+ on Mar 31.]

I've considered changing the order of those two. If I get the Cash+ first, I will again be under 4/24 and eligible to get a Chase card a couple months quicker than if I get the Sapphire first and have to wait until I'm 0/6 for a US Bank card.

Some thought has even been given to applying for both on the same day, since they should pull different CRAs and probably won't see each other. But I'm afraid that when they see it later through SP checking up on me, they'll be annoyed and possibly close accounts I just opened. Opinions on this are welcome.

A few months later, say December, I want to get a 2nd Discover it Cash Back to hit the double rewards again.

I got the CSP on schedule and the Cash+ way early. Then I got an Amazon Prime Visa that I'd been thinking about getting maybe next year.

So I need to stop applying for stuff for at least 6 months.

Could still go for a 2nd Disco around December.

2023 Card Strategy

  • What's in my wallet
    • Category: Disco (5% CB and 0% promo APR)|BofA CCR (5.25/3.5% CB)|RedCard & Amazon (5% credit)
    • Non-Cat: AppleCard (3/2% CB)|CU Visa (2% CB)
  • Account Management
    • New: AMEX BCE or Fidelity or Discover to maintain 0% APR into '24
    • Change: Consider downgrading AMEX Gold to Green
    • CLIs: Discover

2023 Mid-Year Check-in

  • YTD update
    • Currently 1/24 and 0 scoreable inquiries 🎉
    • Mortgage middle score is finally 760+ 🙌
    • CLIs from my slow-growth creditors 😂: Disco and Amazon Visa
    • My CC spend allocation is spot on with what I projected above
  • What's ahead
    • New account: AMEX BCE
    • Downgrade: AMEX Gold to Green
    • One to two account closures and/or CL reallocations

This is the slowest credit year I've had in a long time. I was finally able to control myself and cool off with new account and CLI requests. As a result, the INQs have fallen off and I'm finally below 4/24. Above all, I'm grateful that I don't have a debt burden.

Re: *New* Setting Your >2023< Card Strategy

-Looking to axe the Amex Green in August, probably transfer my MRs to choice priveleges and have a little vacation or a really nice dinnner.

Considering RESY gold, since dining seems to be my highest category.

-My goal card is CSP which would be great to fly family/ friends down to where we moved. Wish I had the profile then to get the 80k offer.

- We just closed on a house and are planning a garage conversion. I dont have the profile for a high limit card, she does, but doesnt want any new accounts so we can refi in 8 months. I considered USB shoppers for the HD/ Lowes 6%, but I feel like I'd get stuck with a **bleep** SL. The other option is a longer term 0% card.

Just talking out loud. Hope everyone is meeting their credit goals this year as well.

My goals for 2023 will be:

  • Continue the rebuild with always PIF (AZEO when reasonable to do so)
  • CLI for SavorOne (aiming for April/May 2023 to request since it's a new card for me)
  • CLI for Discover (will give it more spend after giving the SavorOne a run first)
  • Add one more CC (mid-late spring if not later) then back to the garden.  Looking at the following options (some may or may not be available given my profile)
    • Amex BCP.  This would have to be sometime after late march when I hit the 5yr1mo threshold.  I know if approved I'll get the low $1k limit. That being said I've done the math based on my spend and when you tally up th 6% grocery (I won't max it but still make ample use), 6% streaming, 3% transit (I tend to take a lot of uber and lyft rather than driving when I go out), 3% gas more than make up the $95 AF versus what I would earn with BCE.  This would likely be my first choice even though it won't help me pad utilization
    • Wells Fargo Autograph (don't know how friendly they are to the kind of profile I have or will have).  Another alternative for getting 3% on gas and transit.  I don't travel all that much but maybe the occasional flight would go on this one instead of Venture One.
    • Bread Financial AMEX - 2% card option that could be a catch all for whatever isn't covered by my other cards and they seem reasonably open to rebuilders.  DPs of people who have similar or less time since discharge getting a decent SL.
    • Mercury 2% - probably at the bottom of this list.  Nothing inherently bad to say about this card but may tend to have lower top end CLs and I already have two MC.  Would prefer my next card be a Visa or Amex to diversify.
  • Possibly look to PC Venture One to QS 6 months+ from now.  This would really be dependent on what card I open.  If I were to get a 2% card I may not PC it, but if i got something like BCP I'd more likely consider trying to go to QS as a backup catch all.

Edit:  Forgot about this post until someone kudoed in the last couple of days. 5 months later I didn't quite stick to my gardening plan. Realized the 5yr1mo rule was from filing not discharge and got the BCP with a surpise $5k limit.  Still working on the SavorOne CLI and will likely try for it next month.  Also wasn't planning on it but asked Discover a couple of CLIs in Dec and Feb.  Both got denied for insufficient experience with curent CL.

Update to the update.

No luck on Discover for a CLI.  Still at $1800.  My plat VentureOne (formerly a QS1), got another PC in March or April (can't remember exactly when) and it went to a WEMC QS (no attempted CLI since so stll at $3500 yet).  I have not yet asked for a CLI on the BCP.  Added the Venture X last night despite having recalibrated a bit recently and was planning to make it 12 months of gardening.  I have a couple smallish trips coming within the sub period that will mean less moving of spend off other cards to meet the sub.  Otherwise it's been a fairly good year thus far and am still happy to say no interest paid since starting my rebuild.

It's also far too early for 2024 plans but I really need to stay in the garden as long as possible and work on getting mortgage scores up as much as I can (they have barely moved at all during my rebuild and maybe they won't move much before the BK7 falls off).  Not ready to buy but I want to be as prepared as I can be for when my living situation comes to an end (hopefully not anytime too soon but inevitably it will end).

Welcome to My FICO Forums, @DigitalDolla. 😁.

As you may have discovered, there are lots of tips in the Smorgasbord Forums about signatures and card images.

To answer your specific question, it's all in the way you enter the HTML code. For example, I snipped the code for my CITI AAdvantage Executive card for you as an example. I host my images on Imgur.com so you'll see a direct link to the image url.  I've currently got my cards sized at 55x75 but there are other compatible sizes.  After  title=, just type the text you want to display in quotation marks. Each card is strung together with no extra spaces or text such as previous card ... ><CARD HTML>< ... next card.
