@ wareagle1,

What’s the benefit as it relates to SCT?

I just learned about the SCT in Dec so I wouldn’t even be answering your question if you hadn’t have called me out. Lol. I’ll do my best.

They’re cracking down on it now. People can go to certain store websites, create an account and/or join their rewards programs, and get a store credit card with only a SP. They do this by loading they’re online shopping cart (once, or multiple times, depending on if it works the first time) and while they’re checking out, a pop-up will appear. The pop-up says something along the lines of being pre-approved for that store’s credit card. You enter your personal info and presto, you have a “blah blah” store credit card. Then, after being approved you can choose to buy the items in your cart or dump them.

Now, my personal experience with the SCT (Shopping Cart Trick) is that, while approved for the only one I did, it resulted in a HP this past Dec. So, it did not work for me like it has for others in the past. I think the days of the SP SCT are over, according to this vast community of credit experts.

The benefits of the SCT are/were:

*Receiving a line of credit without a HP on one or all of the CB’s.

*Consumers with little, bad, or no credit could get a credit card.

*Padding your overall utilization.

I’m sure there are other benefits but, I’m no expert and will leave that to the pros.

I don’t advocate using the SCT because of my personal experience. Judging by what I’ve read here, mostly anyone using the SCT will get a HP now. If you’re going to apply for a store card because you shop there regularly, that’s a different story.

I apologize for the long response but hopefully it at least partly answered your question. That’s all I know on the subject. Lol.

@wareagle1,

Thanks for the response. I’m quite familiar with the SCT. My question was related to the benefit of opening up a browser in cognito or privacy mode as it relates to SCT.

Re: Shopping Cart Trick

Any CC from Commenity for a SCT is a hard pull since last Sept/Oct.

I apologize. I misunderstood your question.

I think it only benefits you to use those modes if you have to try the SCT more than once for one store card. Privacy/incognito mode doesn’t store any data on your device. You don’t have to “clear cache” every time you close out a page, if it didn’t work the first time. So, using those modes is like being a new customer every time you put items in your cart. Your regular browser does store that data.

Re: Shopping Cart Trick

Yeah it dropped for 2-3 months bc of having so many accounts and lowering credit age but shot right back up bc I didn’t use them and it was a higher limit considered in my utilization.
