Should I Risk getting Freedom Flex?

My stats are in my sig.  Last card I got was Miles on September 1st.  I plan on applying for the Chase Freedom Flex on December 1st.  With my stats I feel like I should have prequal offers right now for chase but I don't prequalify for any of their cards.  Should I still apply for it next month even though I don't prequalify?

A pre-qualification offer is really not required if you want to pull the trigger so as long as you are below the 5/24 threshold, which based on your signature, it appears you are.  As they say, no risk, no reward.  Let us know how it plays out once you decide to apply.

Re: Should I Risk getting Freedom Flex?

You are right.  I recently seen someone on here apply and was approved after no prequal offers.  I tried to check prequal offers for my girlfriend and she got no offers on chase website despite getting mail offers from chase.

Re: Should I Risk getting Freedom Flex?

I got approved for the majority of my Chase CCs without being pre-qualified.  After 5/24 was put in place, I would only apply with a pre-qualified offer (green/black stars w/solid APR) as that would be my only way to bypass their restriction 😁

+1

You can also go in branch and check for pre-approval.

Re: Should I Risk getting Freedom Flex?

IMO, a prequal isn't really needed for people above 720 and obviously if under 5/24 with Chase.  I belive that prequals are meant for people without strong profiles and lower scores who are uncertain of their credit. Barring any negatives or aggressive credit seeking a person should'nt have any issues being approved at 720 or higher. Heck I see a lot of approvals in the mid 600 range.

I'm not saying a person with 775 can't be denied or hasn't been, anything can happen, it's just less likely to happen given normal behaviors.

And I realize some people want that certain clarity a prequal might give them before proceeding, but nothing is ever guaranteed nor are one's chances 100%.

I'm not sure how much time you spend in approvals, but Chase isn't particularly score sensitive, nor there is any significance to 720 (or any other number).

Utilization, age of credit,  and recency of new accounts is by far more important to them.

@Beast26  application is not a "risk".

It's a normal cycle, you apply, they decide. While stars, check marks etc might provide a bit of assurance, it's still not a done deal because if there are any significant changes from the time Chase did a soft pull that the pre-approval is based on, to the time you apply, you can still get denied.

If you have no recent negatives (under two years for lates, a bit longer for COs), and your utilization is in check, apply.

Fearing HPs is like being afraid of crossing the street, resulting in you never leaving the house while waiting for new and improvement crosswalks...might be tomorrow or not in your lifetime.

Go for the card you want, and should it result in denial (hopefully not), at least the AA letter would tell you what you need to work on if this card is beneficial and important to you.

Re: Should I Risk getting Freedom Flex?

I say apply! I have <700 with no prequals, and just got approved for the CSP. Though I do have an existing banking relationship with Chase; not sure if that helped.

You dont need a prequal for Chase, just be sure to be under 5/24 .
