I was told by a couple of Citi’s CSRs that I have to wait until my 0% intro promo apr expires in August to PC my Citi AA.
Is this true or should I keep calling back to get a more knowledgeable CSR? If this is the case, I have to eat the 95$ AF this year or close the card.
When did you open the card? You typically have to wait one year to PC. So I'm assuming that it's still within the first year, thus the promo rate and no AF. I have a feeling you'll be stuck with the AF unless you cancel, or PC to a no AF card. Maybe? YMMV in getting the AF reimbursed.
You could call them once it's billed, to see about any retention offers that will offset it. Do you not like the card for some reason?

I opened the card June 14 last year so my year is coming up in a few days. However, since I had a 14 month 0% purchase apr, it doesn’t end till August this year. I wasn’t sure if it was a general rule that you can’t PC a card after a year if you are still under a promo apr.

So you got a SUB, a promo APR to save some money on interest, and no travel benefit value from the card?
You could close the card at the AF, to avoid it that way, but PC away from the AF, I could see that being restricted in the promo APR T&C.
Do you fly American Airlines ever?

I’ve flown American 3 times since getting this card. I have only flown once this year and have a upcoming flight on United in 2 months. I guess I just don’t like being tied to one airline.
if I have to pay the fee, I’ll pay it. For the most part, I do fly AA at least once a year. I was really trying to cut back on AF cards without actually outright closing them. I was just curious if this was really restricted if under a promo APR.

0% promo APR on purchases? I believe you can't change products during that time.
0% promo APR on balance transfers? You can. I did it recently.

Understood, reducing the number of AF cards saves that outright cash.
One consideration is, you were saving $25 each way, with the free first checked bag. You also got slightly earlier boarding on those flights. For myself I find those are useful, but each person has to decide for themselves.
The AA cards are also getting better earning for dining and gas in July, so I’m closing one of my AA cards, but still keeping one for the next year. I have been using one of them for BT offers and just considering the AF as a financing cost, but they raised my BT fees, and I have other BT cards, so that one is getting closed.

I also just put a BT on mine recently (0% till Dec 19 with 3% fee) since I know I won’t use it for purchases. Otherwise, It would just go unused since you don’t have to purchase the flight with the card to receive the benefits. With that being said, I may just keep the card since I do stay near an AA hub. I also have the Aviator White which I put a small reoccurring charge on to reset the 18 months expiration on my miles.
Also what do you mean when you say Citi raised your BT fees? I constantly get offers on mine with either a 3% or 5% fee. I always do the 3% ones as I can’t justify paying more than that in fees.
The Citi BT offers I am seeing have consistently gone to 5% for me. Double Cash BT offers ( a PC from Diamond Preferred ) seem to be 3%, but I am nearing the end of needing any BT, other than for fun.
Another thought about the Citi AA is to see if you can PC to a American Airlines Gold version. Lower AF, fewer perks. They may also have some sort of points offer. One of my Citi AA cards ( the one I use for spend ) was getting consistent offers for spend $500 and get additional 3,000 AA miles. Those were nice. I don’t know if they have a no-AF version of the Citi AA cards.

Yes they have a no af version but since I have the aviator white I don’t have a need for it. I use the aviator white to keep my miles from expiring basically.
