Hi TheCynicalOne,

As a long-time account holder with BofA myself (well over 10 years)
I can understand how you feel.

Obviously the acquisition of "a rather large mortgage company based
in California" isn't going as well as planned. So they've amped up their
marketing efforts to help pay for the sale. Who better to target than
existing customers who have opted into preapproved offers??

They don't want to kill anymore trees and send preapps in the mail because
most of them won't be read. So they pitch you in the drive-thru or at the teller
window in order to save time. Of course, once you say "No" that should be
the end of it, but sadly it's just an excuse to follow a memorized script.

I believe the industry term for this is "organic growth". Don't be surprised if
you see or hear of other banks doing the same.

Even as big as BofA is, times are tough for them as well. They don't understand
english...they understand green. So if they get too pushy, you can always vote
with your dollars. Believe me, they'll change their tune pretty quickly.

This latest marketing tactic, as well as everything that's happened in the wake
of the subprime mess, is one of the biggest reasons people are flocking...and I
do mean FLOCKING...to credit unions. People are tired of all the nonsense, and
they want to work with people face-to-face at their own pace without having
offers shoved down their throats. CU members own the joint, and owners don't
get treated that way.

So if too pushy (or too tacky) comes to shove, just vote with your dollars. They'll
get the message then.

I never really thought of it in that context.  Kind of summarizes what's been happening lately to the banking industry.  They're desperate to drum up some more business or keep the business they currently have.  I guess I was just creeped out that he called my cell phone after I told him no the same day.  lol

But I guess I forgive you BoA.  You've been good to me so far.

people still actually go into banks? Smiley Very Happy
True that. I've only been in the doors 3 times in 7 years I think.
I've never even laid eyes on my bank! (USAA in San Antonio) Smiley Very Happy

Funny!  I just joined Provident Bank in Maryland.  I don't think a lot of these banks and credit unions expected national support!

Oh...and to put the double entendre to rest.

I can safely say I have both been propositioned and solicited in line at the bank.

I have never solicited or propositioned in a bank myself.  I was the one on the receiving end.

Oh, that certainly sounds bad.

Well, in upstate NY they used to sell crack in the bank doorways. Does that count?
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: Solicited in Line at the Bank?

Have to chime in here...as a former employee of said bank....

High pressured sales!  I was a *certified* teller...and we had to maintain a certain number of sales per week/month to keep our job!  Perfect attendance and perfect balancing meant NADA!

We'd have contests to boost sales...cash at the end of day for sales, although a "sale" was considered a check card, or cc app.  Mind you...cc app didn't have to be approved, but applied for none the less!

When our sales were down, we'd have to be "counseled" with supervisors, then given a written warning.

I definitely do NOT miss the *politics and pantyhose* of the banking world!

After reading the last several posts, I spent about 20 minutes
laughing so hard that I got cramps in my stomach.Smiley Very Happy

Then I promptly spent another 10 minutes lying face down on the
floor waiting for them to subside. Smiley Very Happy
