I have been doing some math and I'm not the smartest guy so can others way in with your opinions with CSR being 1.50x through the portal?
I have noticed especially if you stay at Marriotts, Ritz or Hiltons using the 1.50x can be a powerful method of using points, better redemption value, getting elite status and stacking points with the UR bookings.
This also can be said for some airline bookings as well to achieve elite status and miles.
In addition, the methods of gathering UR points w/ different cards makes it even easier to accumulate points with less spend.
Am I missing something?
Also, did they make some co-banded cards obsolete with CSR having 1.50x?
I've been curious about this as well. Seeing as how points through the UR portal are worth 1.5x, wouldn't that make the FU redundant?

Only if you plan only to redeem through UR portal. If you still want to transfer, FU earns 1.5 UR, CSR 1 (outside categories)

If you have FU, then all the 1.5 points can be transfered to CSR so they are 2.25 through the UR portal.
CSR, Freedom and FU is a great combo. Up to 135,000 points in welcome bonus (5K in 3 months), only 1 AF. If you want to use the portal that will be 7.5 points in quaterly categories, 4.5 points travel/dinner and 2.25 points everywhere else.
Hey redpat, did you end up closing your Discover?

Just put order in for my cashback to be deposited, I hate gift cards and waiting until statement cuts on 9/4 to pay and close.
I had zero activity last month might as well get a last reporting.
Funeral services will be held on 9/6 no open casket, it was put into the shredder.
HAHAHAHA! No joke I snorted a bit of water reading that. Hope you enjoy feeling a bit lighter!
OP, to your original question, yes using the UR Portal to pay for Marriott, Ritz, and Hilton makes total sense. If you tried to transfer those points to Marriott or Ritz, you'd typically get .4c value per point, not 1.5c as through the Portal. For Hyatt, a little closer value, Hyatt points can be worth more like 1.5c per.

Hyatt I have gotten 2.50x to 3.5x per UR point for Hyatt so their transfer is good. But if you need a couple for stays for Diamond status booking through the portal isn't bad for 1.5x either.
