Follow-up:

Called FNBO back to be crystal clear on the instructions, nothing changed. Monday morning, went to US Bank.. after explaining what I needed, they told me to take a seat and the manager would be out shortly. Well, have it be.. instead of the manager greeting me.. it was a sheriffs deputy. After explaining to him that i'm not here to rob the bank ._. he called FNBO and "authenticated" my identity. The US Bank manager was so confused that another bank would tell a customer to pick any bank and have that branch's manager call a totally different bank to verify someone's identity on their behalf.

Why am I not surprised?! I believe I said I might call security over if I worked in a bank and got such a bizarre request!

I'm glad you didn't get hauled in to explain things 'downtown' and it all worked out okay. But this is, hands-down, the strangest, most bizarre bank-related thing I've ever heard....

I think there is an important lesson to be learned from this.   Save the first post in this thread and then, next time you are robbing a bank, if you are caught explain: "Look I was just trying to find a bank manager so he or she could confirm my identity with FNBO".   The story will appear so ridiculous the LEOs will assume it must be true.

Re: Strange request from FNBO

I admit I'm mildly curious how FNBO would respond if the details of this situation were to hit their social media feeds.

I'm not usually one for publicly 'calling out' a company, but this was just crazy... they really should be made aware of the possibly dangerous situations they are setting up for their new customers.

Re: Strange request from FNBO

OHHHHHHH NOOO, if I had a sheriff called on me for a CC application I'd be so livid... I can easily do a video call or fax/email a notarized copy of my ID.

I once had a very hard grilling by Barclay for ID, had to send in my notarized ID, a current car registration, SS Card, a utility bill, and still got told "you sure it's you?".. but they gave in... once I said contact the notary they verified me.. I did use a online notary but it's still valid in the US so maybe that's why
