I was approved for my QS1 late September 2016 with a 3K credit limit. Paid the $39 annual fee b/c I was just happy to have credit again after BK7. My plan was to wait until my CL increased to 5K and try to upgrade to the regular QS, hoping that I would get the World Mastercard.
Reading MyFico today, I saw that the regular QS has become World Elite Mastercard with a minimum CL of $1,000. I thought, "Wow, I should qualify for the QS, no problem."
So, via chat today, I was immediately upgraded to the regular QS, no problem.
However, they stated that my type of card, i.e., Platinum will stay the same. That I cannot upgrade to the World Elite. They said I would have to app for a new card. Theys aid it has always been this way.
Don't get me wrong, I am happy to no longer have to worry about an annual fee. But, I was hoping to have a World Elite card if it were possible. The reps told me that this is not possible.
Haven't others successfully upgraded to QS and also World Mastercard?
Is it because the QS is now World Elite Mastercard that they won't allow it?

If you look around you'll find a couple of exceptions where people went the EO route, but generally speaking the path of least resistance to get upgraded to a World MasterCard is to PC to a different product.
Most of the time if you PC and your credit line is $5k or greater the new account would automatically come as a 'World' card (sometimes the CSR would be able to advise of this, other times it was a 'surprise'). This is one of the few times it would make sense for folks with a QS MasterCard to PC to a Venture One MasterCard... the new card would come as a World MasterCard, and then six months later they PC back to a Quicksilver (with it's higher rewards) and the account retains the 'World' level.
However... now that new QS and Venture/Venture One accounts are being issued as MasterCard instead of Visa there's no way to know if what has worked in the past will continue to work in the future. We'll have to wait until there are more data points to know for certain.
Thanks Uncle B. I appreciate the response. Seems like I may have missed out since I already agreed to the upgrade. But, that's ok. The regular card still have really good benefits, such as price protection. Maybe, once I hit the $5000 mark, I will try to see if I can upgrade to the World or World Elite on the Venture. If not, no real loss as I have a Discover with excellent benefits and a Visa Signature on another card.

I'm actually in the same boat... I upgraded my QS1 to a QS (to avoid the annual fee) before I reached $5k.
I'm now at $4.9k, and once I pass $5k (hopefully in the spring) I plan to PC to a Venture One... with a little luck I'll get the 'bump' to World MasterCard (in any case, I'll have a data point to provide to the community... LOL).
While the rewards would take a slight 'hit' it wouldn't be too bad (1.25% instead of 1.5%), and once six months pass I would PC right back to a QS.
That's the plan, anyway!
Sounds like a good plan. Think I might follow suit.
Yes, that's the path I took as well. My first foray back into unsecured credit was a QS1 at $3k. I was able to get it converted to a regular QS after about 6 months (credit steps CLI to $3.5k), then later on I got a CLI to over $5k, asked for a PC to a VentureOne and it was converted to a WMC. Pretty silly actually because the VentureOne is a decidely inferior card to the Quicksilver, but I have another QS so it's fine. The red & yellow Mastercard logo on the VentureOne actually looks kind of funny. WEMC was not available at the time I converted.

Thanks HappyPill. Guess I'm going to have to try it this way. Thought it might be different because they are all World Elite Mastercard now. But, guess not. Hopefully when my CL is $5K they will entertain me.
