So I was recently approved for the Target CC. Unfortunately my SL and temp limit is $300! I am sure will not change when I recieve my actual card in the mail. I wanted to purchase a Nintendo Switch for my daughter. I put it in the cart and got the 5% off, free shipping plus a $25.00 gift card for purchasing the console. My question is with taxes and everything it totals to $310.56 with tax included. If I were to go over the limit would it prompt me to pay the rest of the balance with an alternative payment? Would this look bad on my CR? I would be able to pay my card right back as I have the cash in hand but really want the discount with my Target CC.

Only one or two folks who had a "temp" online CL, actually got a better one when they received the card). I wanted to purchase a Nintendo Switch for my daughter. If I were to go over the limit would it prompt me to pay the rest of the balance with an alternative payment ( I would assume it would)? Would this look bad on my CR?(only if you let the the entire balance report. At that point it would show a 100% maxxed out card, and FIco doesnt like any card reporting more than 30% of its limit, so you would see a score drop potentially). I would be able to pay my card right back as I have the cash in hand but really want the discount with my Target CC. (If you could pay the balance, or most of it (Target also likes a small balance reporting each month of use), before the statement cut, then its a win-win for everyone..you, fico scores, and Target).
They're unlikely to approve the purchase for any amount over the credit limit, especially on a just recently approved card. I don't shop Target.com, but maybe you can buy a $25 Target gift card with another credit card? If they're like Amazon you can add the gift card payment to the order and bring the total paid with the Target card to under $300, and still get the 5% discount & free shipping for the Target card payment.

Wow thanks for replying! How much should I let report on the Target CC? It would be great to make this one purchase. If anything it will just decline, I assume?
less than 30%..so $80-$85.
You can always try and see if they will allow the purchase. I highly doubt they will allow it though. If its successful, dont be surprised later that you could get an email saying, unable to complete your order please call customer service, or something like that. Probably due to the fact you didnt have enough available credit to complete the order.

Sound advice, the gift card would be the way to go.

Why bother with credit card? Just get their debit card, the same 5% cashback. Can use it online too. That's what i did, as they declined my credit card application. Cancel the credit card sometime down the line.
Btw, beware Target is infamous for overcharging. Just take a calculator and double check the bill. I discovered recently that they overcharged me on an online order.
Target credit card does not offer any extended protection benefits, no sir. All other benefits (free shipping and 30 days return) are the same for debit and credit. Maybe 16 years ago it was a different card?
About overcharging - i was also shocked, when saw on my bill, and how widespread it is [Mod cut - Sorry, links to that website are not allowed on myFICO - KiB]
I am still trying to get my money back.. what a nightmare it is.
Did not post a link right away as not to derail the thread, but the op got to know and be aware.
