Re: Target MasterCard

Perhaps once they start issuing the MC version they will begin giving out higher CLs. One could only hope! I have one of the higher limits at $1500, but still that's nothing to write home about. Higher than my cap1 card though, LOL.

Agreed I see very little point in the credit card. It is notorious for tiny limits that don't grow. Besides that, you get the same exact benefits out of the debit card with no HP.

And yes that Mastercard pic has been floating around for a long time, the only thing available on their site is still the usual store card. Evidently, they decided not go forward with the Mastercard or there's a serious delay (as it has been a year+).

Serious delay. Launching Aug 17 last I heard. Initially, it'll probably only be for people who currently have the Visa card, but I have no hard facts on if they'll take new sign-ups or not... that's only speculation.

I still haven't received any mailing for Target MC. I still have the same old Target Visa.

I haven't received any updated info on mine either.  I'm sure the'll eventually communicate those changes sooner or later.

Re: Target MasterCard

That date is already delayed from January. Though they mean it this time - supposedly. In fact cards are supposed to start going out before that date - around now, actually. I'll believe it when I see one.
American Express Blue Cash Everyday - $11,000; American Express Platinum Cashback Everyday - £3,000; American Express Rewards Credit Card - £7,500; Aqua Reward Mastercard - £3,500; Bank of America Travel Rewards - $5,000; Barclaycard Freedom Rewards - £3,500; Citi Forward - $5,800; Discover It - $10,000; Halifax Clarity - £1,500; HSBC Platinum with Rewards - $5,000, MBNA Everyday Plus - £3,500

Re: Target MasterCard

Do you guys think the MC will be open to the general public, or only a replacement for the Visa cardholders? If so, how were the odds when the Visa was available? Was it easy to obtain or not? Do you reckon the odds will remain the same?

I have no interest in it. But, my mother has been trying to build credit (never had credit in the US- just got her first card a month ago, C1 Platinum at $300 on Credit Steps), and in a few months (once she's out of Steps), she might be really interested in this card. She shops at Target a lot (we live basically next door to one), and a low CL is just fine for her.

I'd rather her get the MC version so that the card can be a little more useful.

I haven't heard much discussion on whether new Target MCs would be offered.   They may just be a legacy item for the current Visa cardholders, but maybe not.   The store card shows on the CRs as "credit card" (like every other major CC) instead of "Charge card" (store cards), so if that reporting stays as is, I can't say I'd benefit anymore by having a Target MC.

Target is my lowest CL at $1000.   However, since I typically don't spend more than $100 a month at Target, I'm happy with it.   While the perks are similar to the debit card, you also have the benefits of a credit product (no direct links of purchases to your bank accounts, deferred payments, etc) combined with those perks.   It's not for everyone, so one should consider all factors before getting it.

I have the Visa version and on TU it shows up as Retail Trades not Bankcard. Weird.

AFAIK, the MC is simply being targeted as a replacement for current Visa cardholders.  IIRC, there have been no plans to roll out the MC to the masses.  Although, anything could change if TD Bank adopts a different strategy with the current portofilo.  As far as the odds, they would not be the same if TD Bank decides (key word *if*) to start issuing the co-branded card again.  Plus, you cannot compare TD Bank (the current issuer of the Target credit card) to Retailer's National Bank/Target who were the original issuers of this card over 15 years ago.

Re: Target MasterCard

Where are people getting this MasterCard stuff? There has been like one article floating around with that same picture well over a year ago. Nothing to make me to believe or assume it's coming. I honestly think target was just talking out of their a** and giving everyone a piece of mind after being hacked.

Re: Target MasterCard

I might be making this up but I thought the Target MC was for Canadians only (but that's probably been nixed as Target pulled out of Canada). It might just be for the Visa cardholders (which are few and far between now?) as a replacement.
