Target On The Chopping Block!

So I know you cant request a CLI on a target card. My SL was $300 and has been stuck there. I habe tried it All. When I first got the card, that, Wal-Mart $400, JC Penny $100 and 2 CAP1 cards around $600 each were all I had. I used to use that Target card up, spending and paying off often. No CLI, so after I was approved 6 months later for my now closed best buy visa, I stopped using the target card. It is still at $300 SL. JC Penny has gone from $100-$6000 and Wal-Mart $400-$3000, cap 1 is bucketed so it only grew by a few hundred then I combined them.

Anywho I just used the card for the first time in months in hopes to get a random CL. I seen someone say let it poat then pay it off and let the payment post and also update income. Anyone thinks this will help? My scores when I got it were mid or low 500s, now I'm mid 600s low 700s.

It just sucks that a few cards are still stuck with low limits. I especially hate it with Target because I use it often for the 5% off, but I cant buy a TV or anything big because I'm stuck at $300 grrrr

Have you gone in to update your income? I literally updated mine with the same info, saved it, and within a month I got a CLI from them. Maybe try that?

Re: Target On The Chopping Block!

I have updated it every month for the last maybe 3 or 4. That's the same advice I had seen. So I figured I try using the card lightly again.

Re: Target On The Chopping Block!

If you are using it for the 5%, go for the Target debit card.   That won't impact your scores and allow you to have the same benefits as the credit card

Re: Target On The Chopping Block!

So with the debit card, I would have to load it with money correct? How easy and fast and convient is it as I stop at Target randomly. Is it something I can do from my phone in 2 or 3 minutes when I pull up in the parking lot?

The Target Debit Card links to your bank account and draws funds from there.

OP - the Target RedCard Debit Card is linked to your checking account. You don't have to add money, it just pulls funds from your checking account. Just an FYI - it does not leave your checking account immediately (it takes a day or 2 to show up on my checking account). You still get the 5% discount.

Honestly with your lineup, they would have been on the chopping block without a second thought. Always remember, make credit cards work for you, not the other way around.

Throw it in the SD. If you get a letter saying they’re closing it due to non-use, ring them up and tell them why you aren’t using it.

Re: Target On The Chopping Block!

OP...thats what I did. It had been exactly a year since my last CLI on my target cc when I finally received one. I was using it monthly, PIF after statement cut, updating income monthly, and nothing.

I SD'ed it, and I didn't use it for 3 months, and then used it for a bigger purchase, let the balance report on my statement date, (I had updated my income online a few days prior to statement cut), and I received a CLI when the statement cut.

Just hang in there...Im the most impatient person when it comes to CLI's, but my holding out worked.

Right, and while there are valid concerns about debit cards in general, this one

a) can only be used at Target

b) Is true chip&pin

so even if it is stolen, providing you don't keep the PIN info nearby, it's going to be hard to use to drain your money.      That said, mine is linked to a small bank account, not my main one.
