Re: Target Card Upgrades - 2019

I would love to get the upgrade - having use outside of Target would make it more of a keeper. I’ve toyed with closing mine once my other cards have higher limits, and just using their debit card, but it’s at $2900 and I don’t want to lose that CL yet.

Re: Target Card Upgrades - 2019

The only reason I can think of to decline the upgrade is if the Mastercard shows up as a new account on your credit report. For many, that's a non-concern.

Hopefully, someone who's gone through the upgrade will chime in on the reporting aspect.

Re: Target Card Upgrades - 2019

I'll be getting my upgrade in August. I started with a $500 CL in November 2016, slowly moving through the ranks, ended up at $2,200 in 12/2018. Got notice last month that they're upgrading me to the MC version and I get an increase to $5,000. I think in the letter it states that it's not a new account, merely an internal PC. Happy to report on this when I get my new card next month.

CO Platinum - $500; CO Quicksilver - $2,000; Marcus GM BuyPower - $700; Target MC - $9,000; Chase Amazon Prime - $17,300; PNC Core - $27,000; Citi DoubleCash - $8,300 - AmEx Everyday - $2,500 (was $20,000); Citi Simplicity - $29,500; Chase World of Hyatt - $17,300; PayPal LOC - $10,000; PNC Cash Rewards - $43,500; U.S. Bank Altitude Go - $15,000; AmEx Platinum - NPSL ($7,800 POT); Elan Max Cash (Alliance CU) - $25,000; Alliance CU LOC - $2,000; BMO Harris Cash Back (Was Bank of the West Cash Back) - $3,000; (Closed Block-Fi - $15,000 RIP); Wells Fargo Autograph Visa - $10,000; Chase Freedom Flex - $20,300; Venmo - $15,000; AllTru LOC - $10,000

Business Trade Lines - Chase Ink Cash - $4,000 (original limit $19,600); Chase Ink Preferred - $10,000; AmEx BBP - $5,500; Hilton Honors Business - $9,000; FNBO Evergreen Business - $15,000; Elan Business Visa (Alliance CU) - $20,000; Citi Business AAdvantage Platinum Select - $16,000; Marcus GM Business - $2,500; Kabbage LOC - $10,500; Marriott Bonvoy Business - $14,600; Barclays AAdvantage Aviator WE Business - $7,000; IHG Rewards Premier Business - $5,000; Edward Jones Business (Elan) - $2,000; Barclays Wyndham Earner Business - $7,000; US Bank Triple Cash - $10,000; Chase Ink Unlimited - $6,000

Total CLI - $412,000

Re: Target Card Upgrades - 2019

Upgrade also makes the fraud possibility on the Target MC more possible, since it is a bank rate, it can be used in more places, and without a PIN.

I have never gotten much love from Target. SL in 2010 was $2000, and next increase of $800 cam in 2014.

Moderate use may be my problem, but I have enough bank cards without it, so I don't really care.

If I were applying again, I'd get the debit card, but Target is not a heavy-use place for us.

The Target MC is PIN priority when used at a terminal. So PIN-less transactions should be limited to online transactions.

Another MFF-er mentioned that the MC does not report as a new account. I believe the existing trade line type is updated from “charge” to “credit card”. Right now, the new credit line is already reporting.

The one thing I did notice on the upgrade letter is that the 2% rewards is limited to dining and gas. I believe in previous years travel was also included in the 2% rewards. It’s not a huge deal, just an observation.....
