I went to Target and I always pay with my debit card. I got my receipt and it said I was pre-approved. I dont know how since i didnt give them my social. They based it off my "shopping pattern". I forgot about it until a week later and called late one night to inquire if this was actually correct and not a pre-qualification. The lady on the phone said no and told me to just take my license and the receipt to the store. I did it first thing the next morning when the store first opened so it would not be that many people in the store. I got my account right there with a temporary card. It was the first one the store had received so they were just as excited as I was. I did get an increase 2 months later from the initial $200 up to $500. I have to bring my balance back down and get my self back on track and hopefully by end of year i will get another increase.

NikJ4 was that a hard pull and if so which one did they pull?

Re: Target

I received a pre-approval at the register the first and only time I used my Orchard Bank card (I normally use my debit card). They pulled TU for me as well. Received a $300 credit limit. When I received my third statement the limit was increased to $500. Received the card in the middle of June, so hoping will change to Target Visa in the next few months since I have read about it happening to others on the board.

Re: Target

Grrrrrr... darn it!! I just used my new Orchard card @ Target, too, but I DIDN'T GET A PRE-APP!!! What the heck???? I swear, it's totally random!

Then again, the cashier *did* skip past a screen about the Target card that I saw pop up on her register. Was she maybe supposed to do something there???

Gonna try again later. I swear, I'm gonna make 3 purchases a **bleep** day, one on each card until I get that **bleep** thing!!!

Seriously, Jenna! Since you had some "unplanned off-road excursions" in app'ing, why don't you let it go for now? Target stores aren't going to suddenly vanish off the face of the earth, and you wound up with some other cards instead, anyway.

I had a hard time several months ago resisting the excitement of all the app'ing stories here, and I knew it wasn't time to app yet. So I made a plan on Notepad of what cards I wanted, why I wanted them, and what it would take to get them. I saved them to the desktop, and literally every time I logged on here, I reviewed the whole list. This kept me focused and on track, and my scores have benefited big time.

I know that on another post you were pretty regretful about your app'ing binge. Maybe keeping a plan on your desktop will help. Hope you don't mind --I'm not meaning to scold. Smiley Happy

LOL!

Thanks Hauling & Stef!

@Anonymous's just irritating that so many people are getting that guaranteed pre-approval @ target, and I'm not. At this point, my Recon or waiting for the pre-approval receipt at the register is the ONLY way I'm applying for Target. I'm sick of the wasted INQ's for the past 3 years.

I may take your advice, hauling. That's a good plan!

I'm done w/apping for a bit, although I do plan to recon my most recent denials... Including Target. (although if they'd just pulled TU, they wouldn't have needed to deny me.... ergh! )

Smiley Happy Thanks again, guys! And move over Stef (or should I say 'Sleigh Center roomie'?)

Re: Target

I think that paying them in full real quick gets their attention.  That is the game plan I am going to use when I eventually use the card this upcoming Feb. ( I have it but I have not used it yet).  Congrats on the CLI.  And remember, keep the utilization down.

Re: Target

As some of you know, I sent target a letter saying I think my account is lost in there system... no upgrades, no CLI EVER since 1999!
Got a form letter today saying we don't take CLI requests on target card, sorry.!!!
I HATE THEM EVEN MORE NOW
