How often is that even happening? I'm going to bet not much because the cards are pretty rare anyway. It's also probably the case that whatever cards do exist use EMV contactless since it started disappearing from cards around the time EMV started being a thing. Again, probably nothing to worry about.

BTW, AmEx's contactless cards are EMV contactless--tapping them at Walgreens makes the chip's application identifier (AID) show up on the receipt. Ironically, Apple Pay with AmEx is not.

Sure, it's not happening in practice except for research and demos... since as you said, they are very rare today.

But I can remember people telling me 20 years ago that magstripes were perfectly safe, "nothing to worry about"! Yeah, they could be "technically" copied, but it was "hard to get the equipment", and "too much effort"....

Yeah. Because no money has been lost to skimmers in the last 20 years....  Oh. Wait.

It's good to know that the newer Amex's are shipping with EMV contactless - that is at least far more secure than the older standard.  At least it stops mass-collection of card data for later use.

But unless timing-based anti-repeater detection is added to the readers, targeted MitM is still possible.  And once magstripe finally dies off, contactless will be THE low-hanging fruit for attackers.

I think getting people to download some malware that sends card numbers, passwords or whatever else they type is still going to be easier than trying to install some repeater device near a terminal. A potential hacker doesn't even need to write the malware themselves--just download one that someone else already wrote and pay for access on a botnet to send the needed spam. If only 1% of people get infected before anti-virus finds a solution for that particular malware they still come out ahead.

Re: The Dual-Interface Amex BCP

I still have to swipe my Amex Dual interface card, since the card readers I want to use it on have the chip reader disabled, and that also disables the dual interface cards via contactless. Previously I had the regular contactless card and that was nice to use, and made for a faster transaction.

I've been waiting a long time for my local companies to get their act together.

Re: The Dual-Interface Amex BCP

Well I just checked my mail and they sent the right card. Excited to give this thing a try. It's the first contactless card I've had, I doubt I'll use it much though I will admit I just got it to have it lol

Use my contactless Amex's at places that take them, just tap and done.. As far as someone possibly getting it through another means; I am not the least bit worried as I am not liable, I have other things I can lose sleep on rather than that.

Yes get on chat and request CONTACTLESS card from them and they will send it to you.. Mine have been overnighted for all three of mine, but depends on Amex and what time you order them and what mood they are in how quickly you get it unless you ask for it to be expedited

I have it on my ED card along with Plat and PRG... Havent bothered on my HHonors as rarely use that card

I didn't think I would, either, but I've become a major fan of Samsung Pay (especially given how torn up my Cash+ was, even BEFORE I had to start shoving it into chip readers). If Discover and Barclays jump on board, I won't even NEED a sock drawer. Smiley Happy

This has the NFC Contactless chip inside of it.  Essentially what Apple Pay and the other mobile wallet apps allow you to do, but it is embedded in the card, instead of having to link it to a phone. You can just tap your card on the NFC reader and it will accept it as payment

Here comes some stupid questions.

1. Would it work if the card is in my wallet and I tap my wallet?

2. If the answer to (1) is yes, what happens if I have more than one Contactless cards?

1. Yes

2. It's supposed to tell you to tap only one card but some terminals might just choose the first one they see. (I could be wrong on this.)
