The Ultimate Guide to Getting Going with Navy Federal and PenFed

Hi Big Dogs,

And by big dogs, I mean the guys with $50k Navy Fed and PenFed cards. 

Can someone post a guide or direct me to a post that details the right way to go about getting set up with Navy and PenFed?  I checked out the sites and applying is easy, especially with PenFed as anyone can join as long as they belong to a veterans support group, but I'd like really detailed information on what actually needs to be set up and seasoned with these credit unions before one can apply for and get these amazing cards.  Personally, I've never used Credit Unions, but I'm 38 now and have 795 FICOs, a thick, clean file, 12 year AAoAs, no inquires, and all sorts of great stuff, and I'm looking to get into the Navy / PenFed game.  A guide would be awesome!

I had another account on this forum called fico_rebuid with a lot of posts, but I can no longer access it or cannot figure out how to login as it used the same email as this one.
