Totally Unsucessful Applications - Help!

So, after paying down balances and a few baddies falling off, I felt confident enough to apply for two cards I though I would get approved for.

Patelco CU Classic Visa (I am a member, living in CA)

Citi Forward Student

I was told by Citi that my application was recieved and being reviewed. I called the New App Status line and was told I was denied. So I stayed on the line to talk to a rep. She told me there was not yet a reason for my denial and said to wait for a letter. Is there another number I could try?

I was also denied by Patelco, who I already have a checkings and savings account with. Is there a backdoor number for them? I didnt see one on the list.

Scores are recent in my sig. Last derog was over a year ago (Sept 2011), AoAA 2.2 years, oldest account is 5.1 years old.  Util at 27%

Clarification: No collections, couple 30 days late, one 90 days late (jun 2011) due to cut hours at work.

4 inquiries in past year, last one in June 2012

I am an AU on moms BOA card ($5200/$19900) and the other three of my cards have small balances on them.

Help? Slightly Frustrated.

Re: Totally Unsucessful Applications - Help!

I'm guessing you were denied because:

- utilization too high

- delinquency to recent

- not enough revolving credit

Any chance for Recon? I cant figure out which number to call thats listed on the backdoor thread.

Should I have my mom take me off of her account?

Re: Totally Unsucessful Applications - Help!

My be it is better to start with a secured credit card. Give it some time(usually one year) to get it unsecured. That will help you in the long run IMO

Starting Score: EQ=665,TU=618 on Oct 9,2010
EQ=702,TU=725 on Apr 11, 2012 EQ=705 on Oct 31, 2012 Current Score: EQ=702, TU=714 on Dec 8, 2012
Goal Score: 750

Citi recon is 800-695-5171/800-763-9795.

For your local credit union, things are a bit more personal.  Call your branch and speak to a banker.

Re: Totally Unsucessful Applications - Help!

I already have three cards that are unsecured. Not sure how getting a secured card would help me now, besides increasing my available credit.

I may just have my mom take me off of her card, that may actually hurt me more than help me. :/

Re: Any chance for Recon? I cant figure out which number to c...

general rule of thumb, never apply with more than 10% debt ratio, also Citi uses their own internal systems and doesn't rely on Fico since they give a credit score based from 350 - 900 if I remember correctly when I got approved for my Forward.

They could or could not count AU's. and Sept 2011 is still too new for a delinquency imo.

So just like it was already stated above, and you can always try to recon but I would probably say it won't be successful but then I've been wrong before =)   doesn't hurt to ask

Thanks for the advice!

My util is around 10-15% without my moms card, so I may just have her take me off. not sure yet though because the age is helping my AoAA.

I will try to recon both later today/ tomorrow. Doesnt hurt I guess since the HP has already hit.

it's probably helping you a lot more, but you should focus on getting your current credit limits higher first. Remember Citi Forward is considered a Prime card that requires Excellent credit. I doubt many companies would approve you from a personal CL max of $300's to several thousands overnight.  If those are secured cards keep adding balances to it, try to keep your reporting utility to 2% on only 1 card, everything else at 0% is a trick that makes Fico scores happy.

but don't remove your mom's account imo. Just keep feeding your secured cards (i'm assuming they are) and when your mom pays down her cards, or you can feed your secured cards enough to overwhelm her debt you'll be in good territory.
