USAA Credit card and account

Just opened an account with USAA Bank, I heard some good things about them.  Looking at different posts I see they offer good credit limits.  What scores are they looking for?  Do they pull EQ?

Not trying to apply for a CC at the moment.  Just curious about score and what they are looking for.  Any other info is welcomed about USAA,

Trying to get off the credit roller coaster and ride stable at 650-750

Thanks

Re: USAA Credit card and account

Being a 20+ year member of USAA, I know that their (USAA Federal Savings Bank) lending policies and rules are strict. I also know that they offer first-rate customer service and super-competitive rates. I have a MC and AMEX with them in addition to doing most all my banking and insurance with them. I daresay I'll be a "Lifer", as most USAA members are. I believe that one has to be a member of the military, or the family member of a military member (current or retired) to get their insurance products.

EQ: 850 (01/2018)
TU: 830 (1/2018)
EXP: 825 (06/2018)

Re: USAA Credit card and account

I have seen so many posts about USAA and NFCU.  I was prior service so i qualified for USAA, I think you have to be active for NFCU.  Once my EQ score goes up maybe I will get an offer from them to apply.  I will be sending funds to that savings automatically and maybe that will help.

Trying to balance my credit lines, i need a major card like an Amex or MC, Visa with high CL.  Scores dropped during separation then divorce.  So hopefully my scores will shoot up here in a couple of months.

Thanks

Re: USAA Credit card and account

I applied a couple months ago and was denied, but then later got a pre-approved offer for the USAA Rewards Amex.  It's still in the mail, but looks to be a nice no fee rewards card.  Variable rate though, so not one to keep a balance on.

As far as insurance goes I've been real happy with USAA.  I've had two auto claims, one of which was being broadsided by a deer, and both times they were great to work with and gave me no hassle about my claim.  I also use them for retirement accounts; their fee structure is extremely competitive.  I think they might have ofered the card partly because of how much business I do with them.

There are a couple of boards around here about what their application requirements are, but I think your best bet is just to opt-in to pre-approved offers and see what they bring to you.  When I get my next report in a couple weeks I'll post which CB they pulled in my Log (linked bleow).

Good luck!

Re: USAA Credit card and account

I was just in the process of opening an online savings acct. with them and decided to call because I had a few questions.

Good thing I called because I found out that my credit union accepts electronic transfers but does not do outgoing electronic transfers Smiley Sad (My Mother works at my CU and I asked her about the electronic transfers) she said I could have $$ transferred into my acct, just can't electronically transfer $$ from my acct.

Kinda stinks, I really wanted to have a savings acct with USAA, so I could throw like 50-100 a month in it and just forget about it, and in a few years have a nice little nest egg.

I have a checking and savings at my CU, but I just wanted to go with USAA (you know "out of sight out of mind") kinda thing. I think I'll just try to put more away into my savings, the only problem is that every time I log into my checking acct. I see my savings acct too, and my Auto Loan as well. Kinda defeats the "out of sight out of mind" deal. But I'll see if I have the willpower to not touch my savings.

I had thought about apping for their USAA World Master Card, but I have to REMEMBER I'm in GARDEN mode Smiley Very Happy

Re: USAA Credit card and account

I am a 27 year member. I can tell you their service is top-notch.

They are very conservative but that is good. Once you establish with them, they can be very generous.

Most CU's are connected in a huge network so chances are that you could still do ATM deposits to USAA from a machine that is local to you, or even do transfers from one CU acct to the other via your local teller.  You should check out the connections and see if it exists for you before you discount that as an option.  Just my .02...

If you sign up with USAA and become credit qualified, you can write a check on your CU account and deposit it into USAA via your scanner.  USAA calls this Deposit@Home.

I can see how a CU could not have a system in place to automated outbound ACH... but with USAA you don't need it. You add your account in USAA, just plug in the Account and Routing numbers, it makes some small deposits and withdrawls used to verify you own the account.

Once that's completed you can push and pull money to and from any of your accounts...

I use it to pull money from my Wells Fargo account all the time, plus when you do it, the money is instantly available from USAA, no 3day waits.

I don't know that it's even possible for a bank to not be able to accept transfers, how would they move money between branches, etc...

In the past now and then I would look at what USAA's savings account rates are. So far their savings rates haven't been competitive.
At another forum there's a very very informative thread that is a compilation of submissions from members about the rates that some of the banks and credit unions are offering.
Google the entire topic title (below) to find the thread:
