Unique case of AU: Am I eligible for my own CSR?

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking the forums for years - thank you all for the insightful tips and your experiences!

So here's my story..

I moved to the US in August. I opened a checking and savings with Chase immediately.

I signed up for the Cap1 Secured Card in September, approved with the $200 limit.

Just one week later, I came up with the idea of being added as an AU to my fiancé's cards:

AU on Chase Freedom ($1k, 8+ years)

AU on CSR ($37K, 2+ years)

always PIF on both cards

Not long after my score went up to 785 TU and 769 Experian.

I also became a Chase Private Client due to a joint checking I have with my fiancé.

January 2019, I started an LLC and immediately opened a business checking with Chase. One week later I went to the branch and was told my LLC is pre-approved for all cards. I applied for the Ink Preferred and was immediately approved for $18k. My score was 759 TU and 769 Experian at the time of approval. Now I'm getting pre-approved offers from everyone (Amex Platinum etc).

My score is currently 780 on TransUnion and 769 on Experian with 2 inquiries (because of the Chase Ink Preferred & Cap1 secured card).

With that beign said, do you think I can be approved for my own CSR as the primary holder? Not sure if my "personal credit" even matters at this point, seeing as Chase instantly approved $18K for my Ink Preferred.

I'm sure I'm already pre-approved on paper but I don't want to jump the gun and would love your insight:

Would Chase want to see some history on the LLC's Ink Preferred, or maybe doesn't matter since it doesn't report on my own report?,

Perhaps start with a smaller Chase CC? Or am I good to go with the CSR application (after 30 days)? I really want the CSR but want to make sure I hit when the time is right.

Thank you and forgive me for the long post!

I should add that I have over 230K in income and that I'm a Chase Private Client (through my fiancé)

Have you asked your banker if any pre-approvals for personal cards are showing for you?

I would first do as @Adkins suggests and check with your banker.  They easily can check to see if you’re preapproved for the CSR and submit the application on your behalf.  Take advantage of that PC relationship.  Having said that I think your chances of being approved are very good but one small nit.  You stated that you weren’t sure if your ‘Personal Credit’ even matters because of the Ink Preferred approval.  It matters very much for the CSR just as it did for the Ink Preferred.  That business approval was based entirely on your personal credit file both externally and Chase’s internal score for you. If your personal credit were to go bad then any application would be iffy.  Good luck when you do apply for the CSR.  Great card.  Still look into some of those other preapprovals.  A lot of people have moved their spending from the CSR go cards like the Amex Gold.  Spend some time reviewing both of their rewards programs, their transfer options for points redemption and other benefits to see which cards fit your current and future travel plans.

Welcome to the forums!

Solid advice above me.

Check with your banker. I don’t see why you wouldn’t get approved for CSR unless Ink put you over 5/24.

Personal credit matters very much for small business credit cards. When your first starting out as a company and need credit, It will solely be based on your personal credit.

Re: Unique case of AU: Am I eligible for my own CSR?

Thank you all.

I'll check with my PC if I'm pre-approved. Seeing as they recently did a hard pull on me personally when I applied for the Ink Preferred, should I wait 30/60/90 days from that day, before I apply for the CSR? Not sure how much they'll factor in, but like I said, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have two inquiries on my report:

September 2018 (Cap1 Secured $200 approved)

January 2019 (Ink Preferred $18k approved)

Re: Unique case of AU: Am I eligible for my own CSR?

My apologies for not including this Q in my first post:

The fact that I'm already an AU on my fiancé's CSR; will this in any way defer Chase from approving me of my own CSR, seeing as it might seem as if I technically already have it?

No, your AU status has no bearing on getting CSR of your own as long as you're under 5/24

Re: Unique case of AU: Am I eligible for my own CSR?

Thank you for the replies.

My final question: Since I currently have two hard inquiries on my report (Cap1 Sept '18, Chase Jan '19 for the Ink Preferred), how long would you recommend I wait before applying for the CSR, presuming I'm pre-approved?

Ideally I'd like to avoid triggering requests for any additional information etc. 30 days? 60? 90? Longer?

Those 2 inquiries won’t make one bit of difference.  If you’re preapproved, apply right away if you want the card
