Re: Walmart Capital One Rewards changing to Quicksilver!

Welp, it was fun while it lasted but I finally got my letter. This was such a useful card for me.

I can only imagine the mad rush the next Walmart card will be especially if it's 5% unlimited again.

Only time will tell if Walmart had already found someone to replace CapOne, but heard nothing aside from them promoting more with the One MC (debit) card.

The big box stores are trending towards a "really crappy pawn shop" with $8-9 tubes of toothpaste behind locked glass and nobody around with a key.

I love Aldi because my AmEx BCP works there and I can toss toothpaste in my cart and go pay for it at the register with the dignity of being a human being.

Toothpaste costs literally almost nothing to make. Target and Walmart jack up the price to like $8-9 a tube and then throw it behind locked glass now with the implication that your teeth can fall out if you can't pay.

Everything is going in that direction, from rent to a tube of toothpaste.

My guess is that credit risk shifting onto Capital One was one reason they ditched the Walmart card, but being tired of subsidizing grocery pickup orders with a couple extra pennies on the dollar was the other.

I plan to stock up on ambient goods before this Discover quarter is over with. Just things I can't buy at Aldi that don't take up a lot of space and are not perishable, like my Better Than Bouillon and other cooking herbs and spices, and econo-size boxes of Special Kitty cat litter while I can still get a decent discount, and then pivot to Aldi once my reserves of the stuff I literally use all the time is replenished.

There's very little that I really need at Walmart and one of the few things that made me kind of want to shop there a bit is because their credit card undid some of the price spread between grocery stores. They're saving pennies and will cost themselves dollars, but that's how corporate executives think. Everyone with a degree in business thinks like this, even my landlord which can't put two and two together and realize that every time he jacks the rent up another $100 he has to spend $1400 evicting someone else that the court gives 90 days where they surely now have no reason to try to pay him, and renting a dumpster for all their stuff that wasn't worth taking, and then leaving another empty apartment on the market in an economy where it takes months to rent them out again. To get the theoretical $100 a month increase from someone else, he has cost himself so many thousands of dollars now that the next person would take years to make up for that provided nothing at all goes wrong with them.

The Business Degree costs you a lot of money and teaches you many things you need to unlearn. I wonder how many student loans that guy has. Smiley Happy

Has anyone received their new converted Quicksilver yet and can confirm APR and card design?

It probably won't roll out until next month, for me, I won't receive it until the end of October.

The Added Pain and Regret continues at the same high rate it was when it was a store card. They'll never agree to modify that.

I know many are disappointed in getting " another " QS but I just my conversion letter today that I'll be getting a QS and I'm quite happy to finally have a core CapOne card sanz 3 hpsSmiley Wink.  Being where I'm from it's a little more harder to get core Cap One cards so this is pretty cool though I'm sure it'll be bucketed lol. I did receive a new Wally card as well recently just to add the dp.

Ah, that's a great point - now you're in the Capital One 'core' club via the back door! Smiley Very Happy

Possibly not right away, but after the dust settles you might be able to PC your newly-minted QS over to a Savor One.  While the QS is an "OK" card, the Savor One is actually a pretty competitive product.  That would be quite the journey for a WM card, especially if your's stared off with Synchrony!

(For what it's worth, my own Savor started life with Orchard Bank/HSBC, then became a Quicksilver One, then a QuickSilver, then a Venture One, then a Quicksilver (again), then finally a Savor (grandfathered - no AF).  It's now 17 years old... it's been quite a ride, haha. Smiley Happy

Yep, if they were to do 5% like Target and Amazon I'm certain there will be a mad rush, indeed. Smiley Happy

(And I might even be part of that mob myself, depending on the lender and terms.)

Re: Walmart Capital One Rewards changing to Quicksilver!

Finally got my letter today informing me that my Walmart Mastercard will be discontinued on Sept 30th 2024 and I'll be switched to a QuickSilver 1.5% Mastercard on that date, so I should expect to receive the new card 7 to 10 days after the current card is discontinued.
