Doesn't this situation simply make your head spin and worry?
I am actually now even more worried than before.
If this card shows up on my credit report I am certainly going to make them remove all indicators of it and repair any damage it causes.
I also know that the opt in law will protect people. If they were smart they would use the opt in approach instead of the opt out approach. Even though I opted out, they still did exactly what they wanted to do, which might come back to bite them in the back side. I am considering sending a complaint to the CFPB to insure that nothing bad happens. The opt in law says that companies are not allowed to use opt out as a way of doing business, so now the underhanded companies use opt in indirectly to get us to agree to something we might not otherwise. They might hide the opt in in long terms and conditions or at points where we might miss them. I believe if it involves a financial charge we must be told in clear, plain, simple Engish that if we agree a charge will appear on our statement or to our method of payment.
Think of the way rapists could get off on a technicality and how that has changed from even 'No, means No', to "Only yes means yes" Now we can start to understand how business can use the same mentality as a rapist and get off on a technicality. Now we are at the same juncture as 'Only yes mean yes' in business. I am not saying business people are rapists or have rapist mentality, just that people with rapist mentality can exist anywhere.....

Outside of credit card message boards who would consider an upgrade a bad thing? Only people out here. No pointing any fingers (point myself too) but if your profile can't take a hit of one card maybe you should have not applied for the other five last year.
It does not matter whether it is a "good thing" or a "bad thing". it does not matter what Walmart calls it. What matters, according to the law, is that the prerogative of it happening lies with the consumer. If Walmart (Synchrony Bank) cannot follow the law, maybe they should not be issuing credit cards.
