Wamu pre- approval!!!!!!! Question

Re: Wamu pre- approval!!!!!!! Question

I was receiving multiple pre-approvals in the mail from Wamu in jan/feb.  Approved and was denied. Called to reconn and was advised their pre-approvals are guaranteed - they request certain criteria from the CRA's ... blah blah blah.  She wasn't able to provide the denial reason and also did not open an account for me. The letter stated I was declined due to high balances on my existing cards.

I realized AFTER that I did have an Providian account which was closed by credit grantor.  Can't remember if it was due to default or if I included it in my Consumer Credit Counseling payoff back in 2000. Regardless, my denial was not due to my previous account.

I got a pre-approval from Wamu last week (getmyvisa) and went online and it gave me the "2-4 week" message...So, not an instant denial and from what I've read this message usually means approved but the CL is pending.

Wonder if anyone else has had this same experience and how much your CL was once you got the card.

Right now, I have a Cap 1 $500, Hooters $500, Orchard $300, and Chevron $600....Cap 1, Orchard, and Chevron are 3 years old.  One of these days I hope to be in "prime" land. I hope to have at least ONE card with more than a $500 limit.

I received the same response when I went to getmyvisa.com to apply for my pre-aaproval.
My request was denied - I hope you don't get the same result.

Why haven't you asked for any CLI's on these cards????  It would improve your utilization.

The Cap1 was a secured card and then became unsecured a year after I had it...no luck with CLI but am considering applying for a different Cap1.  Orchard won't go any higher.  Chevron just gave me a $300 bump up last November (I originally had only $300 limit on it).

Hmmm...then, I guess the information another poster got from the customer service rep was wrong and even with the 2-4 week message you can be denied.

Well, guess I won't get my hopes up then....

Re: Wamu pre- approval!!!!!!! Question

Do you think my scores would qualify me for WaMu?  How do I get one?  Should I even bother, if I already have one Discover card with 2200 limit?  Is there an annual fee?

I am the bad luck queen.  Everything positive that happens to other posters I end up getting the exact opposite result (except for BOA ... thank goodness for that). Therefore, since I was declined you will more than likely be approved a great opening tradeline Smiley Happy

Re: Wamu pre- approval!!!!!!! Question

Funny thing is I got my card and activated it, signed up for online access and BAM there is the old Providian account with a balance!!! I almost choked when it popped up. Im not sure how the Wamu Visa's are approved with a defaulted Providian account and not the Wamu Mastercard. wierd, thought i would share. They definitely didnt forget about the Providian card.. I paid in full but it was charged off 1st, yet still approved for 2500.00 cl.. Smiley Surprised

Re: Wamu pre- approval!!!!!!! Question

I'm amazed. I have been literally flooded with offers from Wamu in the past few months but figured my old IIB of Providian would have me on their " " list. After checking some of the databases, it looked like they weren't as fussy on the Visa as the MC. So, I took my pre-approval to their website and fully expecting to be told to go away; I was instantly approved at 4K. Hopefully, I'll get the card before they go under.

I'll follow-up and post who they pulled as soon as I know.

EDIT - Pulled a 680 EX which clearly shows two (2) Providian Accts IIB7 - 2003. I used to be a banking customer with them several years ago but moved on the the local CU as they left a lot to be desired as a bank. (I figured they felt the same way about me as a customer, LOL...They should)
