Wells Fargo Cc Fraud

Hello Fico Friends, got a purchase alert on my Wells Bilt Cc on my email. Good grief this is the second time with a fraud purchase. The first I reported and was given a new Cc. Now, with new Cc I have a new fraud purchase unbelievable. 😏

Re: Wells Fargo Cc Fraud

I don't suppose your using the card in the same place that may be skimming your card or anything else suspicious?

Re: Wells Fargo Cc Fraud

No I haven't , and to top it of my Cc was in my safe deposit box at time of fraud charge. I immediately lock my card on Wells online and called customer service.

Re: Wells Fargo Cc Fraud

I'm sorry for your experience.  I had this same problem when I opened a BofA Alaska Airlines card a few years ago.  From the first month I kept getting Disney+ charges that weren't mine.  BofA would cancel the card and issue me a new one.  Neither the bank or Disney+ could find a way to stop the charges so I just closed the account.  Since the fraud charge appeared before I had ever used the card for the first time, I have to wonder if people working in card production or even the bank were responsible.

Re: Wells Fargo Cc Fraud

@gingerflower  After reading what has happened to you. I would be concerned about some malware or thing on your computer or phone. Here something's to check.

1. Make sure your firewall is turned on. If not turn it on. If using windows or Apple computer

2.  Run a virus scan that checks for malware and viruses.

3. On a windows computer in the search box on the lower right type in storage settings.  When the application starts select never for the first boxes your choice. Then click run this will clear out unneeded stuff from your computer.

4. if the card is in any of your electronic wallets like PayPal etc  Change the password and turn on 2 factor authentication.

There is something that may have been breached. Change your Wells Fargo password and or user name.  I would do the same thing for email as well.

Re: Wells Fargo Cc Fraud

While it's possible someone has acquired your specific card info locally, there's been an ongoing effort by scammers to target the WF/Bilt cards, and there's little that can be done to prevent this from the customer's side.

The good news (?) is that in these cases there's nothing customers are doing wrong... the scammers are using automation to generate random account numbers using the WF/Bilt BIN, so it's (un)luck-of-the-draw who is impacted. Smiley Frustrated

@gingerflower

Just another thought about this

Article Title name "Yes, merchants can get new card info on recurring charges"

https://www.creditcards.com/education/recurring-charges-updater-1275/

Perhaps this is a BIN attack like @UncleB  suggests, maybe bad luck, maybe something like the above article, or maybe something like a bad actor has access to your info through a valid or old recurring charge.

Re: Wells Fargo Cc Fraud

@UncleB  @Anonymous I had not heard of this type of fraud attack. I searched for more occurrences I cannot find anything in 2024 reports of it happening. Not saying it isn't. The fact the concerns me  is two fraud charges on two different Wells Fargo cards in a vey short period of time. @gingerflower  I would like to make sure the device(s) (desktop, laptop and  cell are secure). By extension the Wells Fargo account  while searching for more information that UncleB referred to I see Wells Fargo has 2 factor authentication which would be something to be enabled. I have this enabled on all credit union, brokerage account,PayPal and Walmart accounts. I would have it on for the bank account but the bank does not offer it.

All,

There are varying forms of keystroke loggers and other malware that could be present as well.  I would like to see those possiblities elmininated.
