No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
1. Are you member at any Credit Union?
2. Who are your secured cards with?
3. Barclay Sallie Mae for TU comes to mind right off the bat.
4. I would go around and check pre-qual on each site, Cap1, Chase, Discover, Citi and report back any offers.

Thanks for the reply.
I am a member with Nassau Financial FCU - they gave me the line of credit which is definitely a step in the right direction.
The secured cards are with USAA (MC and Amex) and Open Sky (Visa).
What's up with that Barclay card? Is it for students only?
I'll definitely try that... No luck getting anything that definitely says I'm prequalified so far.
how long have the credit cards been open and you just got the loan?
did you try for a credit card with them but got the loan?
Barclay Sallie mae is not a student card.

Everything is pretty new. Never had cc's before. Had some errors and collections on my reports and cleared them all with disputes/pfd's as appropriate. I just don't want to waste an inquiry by applying and getting rejected
I would apply for:
1. Barclay Sallie Mae, NOW (we can give you recon line to call in right now during hours if you don't get an instant approval)
2. I would apply for a USAA unsecured card
3. Capital One is not giving you any offers off their site?

I just Googled it and it says you need "excellent" credit.... so I'm a little nervous. If they reject are they likely to counter with another card? I know Barclay was definitely #1 on the list of cards I wanted before I even posted this.
don't pay attention to that... Barclay does not have different underwriting for the different cards according to the last underwriter I spoke with.
but if the computer does not give you an instant approval we have the number to call in and instantly speak with a person that can pull up your credit report and go over it and recon application.

I received my Sallie Mae two months ago with almost identical scores to yours...
