Re: What Was The First Credit Card In Your Name?

In 2004 at age 19 I got a USBank Student Visa with a $500 limit. It's now a Select Rewards card with a CL of $13250. I didn't even want a CC at the time but my mom forced me to get it. I apped and then kind of forgot about it except to make a purchase every 6 months. After reading some members' stories, I'm glad my mom taught me so much. My scores have dipped over the past year due to a prolonged app spree & more SL's, but I'm setting myself up to age a bunch of cards - I figure when I want to buy a house in a few years, I'll be in fantastic shape :smileyhappy:

Re: What Was The First Credit Card In Your Name?

Carson Pirie Scott store card in 1984 when I was a senior in High School. They sent me a preapproval in the mail.

First Visa and Mastercard from First Card (First National Bank of Chicago in 1985). IIRC, both cards charged to the same account.

Oldest card I still have is a Chevron/Gulf from 1987. It has survived a bankruptcy and generally living 20 years in a non-Chevron area. Every time I am somewhere where there is a Texaco or Chevron I buy their gas!

Re: What Was The First Credit Card In Your Name?

First credit card for me was a Dayton's Dept. Store student card.  I was a part-time after-school employee in the Minneapolis downtown Dayton's (right behind Mary Tyler Moore when she throws her hat up in the air).  I was also 15 years old - probably too young to work and too young for a student card.  Gee, can't remember the year...........

Mine was a Sears & Robuck card back in 1994 when I was 18.  $500 CL, I thought I was rich.

Re: What Was The First Credit Card In Your Name?

Standard Oil, now known as Chevron.  Circa, (cough, cough....) 1967-68?  Had lots of other as well because back in "The Olden Days" they just mailed them out to anybody that had an address!  Some days we'd get 2 or 3 in the mail.  They were good for motels too.  We made many a trip across country on those cards, but alas, saw the error of our ways when we needed to pay them off..  lol  Gas was anywhere between 37-45 cents per gallon but it was all relative.....  wages: 90 cents an hour!  Oh!  Those were the days!!

I'm almost sure I saw a Standard station when we went through Texas last winter????  Any Texans that can confirm that?

Re: What Was The First Credit Card In Your Name?

I think it was a Sears store card around 1973 or so. I remember buying seat covers for my 1964 Buick Special after my dog ate the upholstery. That card is long since gone. (Too bad.) So is the car.
