What are the current citi rules concerning multiple apps?

I am crossing the two year mark since I downgraded my AA exec card to a plat. I was going to app for the citi aa plat 60k offer for 3k spend. My prestige/premier are coming up on renewal at the two year mark next month. How long do I have to wait between apps on two personal cards?

What are you trying to achieve? What do you also mean by renewal? Normally if a card is up for renewal they will send you a new card in the mail with an expiration that has added 3 years.

He/She is trying to churn credit card sign up bonuses and asking to see how to best put the app order of two upcoming Citi applications since Citi wont allow two applications on the same day or even back to back.

What he/she meant by "renewal" ... I am guessing it's the way of saying "reassessment" of card value and see which one to cancel/product change etc. And since Citi has a rule saying that you wont get the bonus again if you had signed up or closed a card within the card family in the past 24months/2years. That's why 2 year is the "renewal" time lol. If you are in this game for a long time, you will know that timing is the key. Smiley Wink

Red, did you finally decide to get another Premier or Prestige? And what do you plan to do with your old Premier/Prestige? I am in the similar situation as well.

My AA plat card just crossed the two year mark. I want to app for the 60k offer with 3k spend and I will close out my old AA plat. The issue I have is that my prestige AF should hit this month, but my premier AF (and two year anniversary) on my premier card will hit in September, so I really don't know how to play this. I have the CSR so the prestige benefits are pretty much useless to me and therefore just going for the premier makes more sense. The prestige has a larger credit line and I'd like to PC that to a citi double cash since I don't have one. Unfortunatly I think if I do that it will count as an account closure and reset the bonus clock for the premier. If I am able to get a new premier with the bonus then I will close the old premier card out to free up credit down the line. Also I have a citi AA business card that I would likely close out because its duplicative benefits with the citi plat card and you can't get a new AA business card if you have one currently open. It would make sense to go ahead and close it now so that it starts the two year bonus clock. Basically after this round of apps with citi I will be done with them for over two years and I will likely close all accounts except the citi double cash in several months.

After this round I may just go into the garden for over two years as to all cards in order to get rid of 5/24. The only things I may consider are some business cards that won't show as new accounts. I really don't want to pull the trigger on these apps right now but my hand is being forced since I don't want to pay the AF to hold the cards open without getting a new bonus and if I close the cards I can't get the bonus for two years. Amex is going to give me 50k points if I spend 5k on my business gold card and that isn't even a signup its just an incentive to spend so I want to spend my money there. Then the citi AA plat card with 3k spend puts me up to 8k spend in three months. Another card app on top of that might be too much spend for me in a short period of time, so I might end up ditching the premier and the prestige unless they give me a great retention offer. Looking at the current retention offers though I am not super impressed. I could really use those TY points to top off my SQ account for a redemption. I'm going to be about 20k points short of a roundtrip suites redemption, so those ty points would make all the difference.

Nice plan. If you still plan on getting another Premier in Sept and if you do not mind pro-rated AF refund, you can always ask for retention offer for your old Prestige now and then product change to double cash after you get your bonus form new Premier. My Prestige's 3rd year AF is due this December but recently signed up for a new Premier because my old Premier's AF was due in July. I will probably product change old Premier to double cash, but I am still thinking about my Prestige card... The trip delay benefit, 4th night free, and roadside assistance could be useful but I am not sure if I will utilize it them in the near future to worth the net fee of $100 a year... Maybe retention offer will make my decision easier but I am not sure how many retention options are still availble to me since I have taken retention offers 3 times already. We'll see how this plays out...

I actually plan to cash out my TY points 1:1 since I could not use my 55k krisflyer miles to book towards my united flights couple months ago. It seems that they always have availability issue with departure leg or arrival leg...I know this is out of topic... What's the best redemption for TY points? What roundtrip suite redemption you were thinking and how do you make sure it's availble? Maybe you have more flexible departure/arrival dates...

Redemption on SQ metal. Yea you need to be really flexible since availability can be a real pain. On a recent trip I booked ANA first back from SIN hoping that SQ would open up for the flight back. SQ never opened up and I ended up shifting my trip from SIN on the last day to hong kong and redeeming a CX flight in F instead. I just redeposited the SQ miles which is why I have a bunch sitting in my account. In terms of TY points I almost always dump them into SQ since I am not a huge fan of some of their other transfer partners.

You can also get some pretty good deals on FlyingBlue for flights to Europe, Hawaii, and French Polynesia.  Their taxes and surcharges can sometimes be high, though.

Re: What are the current citi rules concerning multiple apps?

Yea taxes and fuel surcharges can really kill the value of a redemption at times. I wouldn't mind a flight to europe. Was considering sq for a ny-Frankfurt flight and then just flying on to eastern europe from there. Getting a bit worn out on asia as ive been there three times in the past three years for fairly substantial stays. Keep going back because i prefer to spend points on long hauls vs the shorter flights to europe. Still need to make it to the middle east.
