What are the requirements for the Amex Gold?

Would it be worth getting the Amex gold over the green? If so, what are the usual qualifications to get that card?

Thanks.

The credit requirements would be the same for their charge cards.  The thing you would have to consider is whether the increased AF is worth what your going to spend on it.   IMO I think the gold for me is worth it because I have an AU so if I were to have a green the AF would be the same as the gold because the AU cost $30 to add so it winds up being the same price with less benefits.  Also if you yearly spend is high then I feel the PRG is worth it because of the extra MR points for different categories.

The UW is the same for the charge cards. By Gold, do you mean the PRG?

When I app'ed for the REGULAR gold at the beginning of this month-I thought there were 2 diff. gold cards-regular and the PRG. Then I heard they (from AMEX for one) were the same. The CSR put me in for the PRG. Not sure-but that MAY have had something to do with my denial.

There are two different 'gold' cards. The UW is the same for both.

There are two different gold cards from you response I guess you didn't apply on their website?  On their website it shows both cards the reguar as a $125 af and the PRG has $175 af but also has better rewards structure and a 25k sign up bonus.  The CSR was right to steer you toward the PRG but not because they are the same.  If you would of gotten approved you could have keep it for the first year for the bonus and extra MR points then downgrade before the AF kicks in.  Food for thought when you apply and get accepted next time.

+1. There is absolutely no reason to ever get the normal Amex Gold. Either get the Green with the lower AF, or the PRG for the spending category bonuses. The Gold is the worst of both worlds - higher AF than the Green but with no additional benefits of any worth.
