I have been using the Amex everyday on my groccery spend. It gets me 2 points for every dollar spent and then a 20% bonus if I have 20 or more transactions in the billing cycle. I am going to change this for the next year because I just got the amex business blue which will earn me 2 points on every dollar spent on grocceries and a 30% bonus on all spend at the end of the year. So I'll have to wait longer to collect but will get 10% more points. Both these cards are non-AF. What other cards do people use for groceries? I could look at the amex everyday preferred but that has an AF and I would need to do the math again to see the break point for the amount spent to offset the AF.
I don't eat out all that often (3 or 4 times a month), and do a lot of cooking at home. I spend around $100-180/wk on groceries.
I use the Amex BCP... 6% CB on the first $6,000 of grocery spend annually (which is $360/yr)... that more than offsets the annual fee, as I'm sure I'll max it out (or come very close).
I do a lot of shopping at Walmart and Target which don't "count" as grocery stores, but I feel I save more money that way vs going to a "real" grocery store for a higher percentage back. If you are paying more than 2-3% more (which is likely for many items) for the items by buying them at a real grocery store, you're better off just getting them at a "discount store" even if you don't get the extra points.
When I do go to actual grocery stores for a few items I use my BOA card, 2% back, which is the same as you get with a Double Cash so not hugely exciting but there aren't a lot of great grocery options out there right now.
Which ever card i'm trying to get a bonus on, or whichever card is my current 0% apr float. I've only been doing this 4+ years and haven't settled into finding which of my old cards max value yet.
If I hadn't burned Amex 8 years ago I'd be using a BCP and racking up the cash back. Oh well, I guess 1.5% is better than nothing.
At the grocery store, first pick is either my Amex BCE or ED. I will also use my BofA cash rewards too. Or if grocery stores is the quarterly category for freedom, will use that.
Our grocery spend is on the larger side so we've been using the Amex OBC. However, whenever possible I use discounted gift cards at Whole Foods, as these give a bigger discount without the hassle of the stupid reward system
Hmmm, take a guess from my sig? Hint, 30 swipes a month.

haha I was going to say once Sallie Mae is dead I will probably end up switching grocery spending to the Amex Everyday. May need to pick up an EDP if the math adds up for it.
I'm sure kdm is right if you buy 'normal' food, but I eat a pretty weird diet whether I'm 'dietting' or not, and buy probably 95% of my 'groceries' from Whole Foods market, so I couldn't really switch to Walmart / Target.
