I would put it down to a mix of growing pains, popularity, and conservative lending practices. It seams like US Bank recently had its customer base increase at a slightly faster rate along with fraud rates so their conservative practices say that they need to double check a lot of things. It also might not have helped if you have a generic name in real life, like John Smith, as that is a easy way to trip up verification.
Anyway your situation is just a hiccup on the great road to expansion at an awesome regional bank. Do your self a favor and ride it out.
