So you get mail:
"Dear Open123,
Great news! You are PREAPPROVED for our special offer of $20,000 (twenty thousand dollars) to spend 5 minutes on Facebook before midnight ET, April 30, 2013."
And you would say No.
Really?

Well, now that you put it that way, being the pragmatic person that I am, I'd have to accept that offer!  I've never had an issue with being "openly mercenary!"  I just need to be compensated, that's all.

I was thinking about the BCP, but I'm already going to be paying an annual fee for my CSP and my Green (which I plan on upgrading to PRG). So that'll be $175.00 per year in addition to the $95 for the CSP. I didn't wanna have too many cards that required annual fees. Do you think it would be worth it for the BCP?

If you spend enough in groceries and gas/department stores it's worth it. None of your other cards carry another bonus for these categories do they?
Also, I think the offer for $250 bonus for $1k spend is still live thru creditcards.com, which basically takes care of your AF for 3 years.
EDIT: Just saw you plan to upgrade to PRG - then maybe it isn't worth it for the card if you want to go this route.
No...I don't have any cards that currently reward me for those categories. However, once I upgrade to the PRG, I'd be able to get 3x on travel, and 2x on Gas and on Supermarkets. And then with my CSP, I get 2x on travel, 3x when I book through UR, and then 2x on dining.
HOWEVER, even though I would get rewarded for those categories, I have yet to have a card that gives me cash back. So hmmm, we'll see.

I'd suggest getting a straight 2% card for general purchases, either the Fidelity Amex or Priceline Visa. I can't say I'd recommend the BCP just for 1% CB - even getting the Capital One Cash Rewards (1.5% CB) would do you better, as it offers wider acceptance and no AF (if you app for excellent credit version).

Most people I see around me take approvals as a matter of course. They're completely indifferent to the "congratualtions! you've been approved." It's a non-event to most people.
We credit card and rewards enthusiasts are very different, and a part of a very small minority.
Agree, most people don't care. . I think people answer this thread assuming the average person in this minority group.

if you spend enough at department stores, supermarkets and gas, the BCP is worth it.
Personally to me the AMEX charge cards have average rewards. What they excel at is the perks that come with the cards. Free hotel upgrades, free late checkouts, lounge access at airports, etc. Can't beat those perks.
For example, the platinum card upgrades your suite for free at Venetian/Palazzo. If you frequent Vegas a lot, that $495 AF is a steal compared to what you would have to pay extra for those larger suites.
I personally doubt I can spend $6000 at supermarkets each year. Maybe 2000-2500. I can spend over 20-30K at department stores (more if only Hermes is considered as department stores too! ) annually though if I use my card for my girlfriend's purchases as well.

Mostly, I just like BCP more because of the Preferred word! haha
