Recently I was with my 83 year old dad and he whipped out this thing. Never seen it before, definitely not one that can be found on the Amex site. They just issued it to him a few weeks ago. What is it?
It seems to look like the "Platinum Edge" from Australia but we're in the US and he's never even been to Australia. Never lived abroad. Hasn't been overseas since the 1960s. Also looks like the Amex "Essential" card offered in Canada but he's never been there either. ???
What did your dad say when you asked him?
He had absolutely no idea, just said, "I don't know, they've been sending me one for years."
The guy probably has a billion unused MR points. I'm sure he doesn't even know how to use them. He's loaded and doesn't care.
Looks like Platinum Edge to me.
There is a Mexican version that looks like it as well as Australian.
Is it metal?

Amex site shows it as an Australian platnum edge: https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/platinum-edge-credit-card/?linknav=au-amex-cardshop-...

Have he log into AMEX account and see what the card is called..... unless he does have an online account and pays his statement via mailed checks.

Haha he can barely use a computer and refuses to use a cell phone at all. His wife mails checks for their bills.
Although it looks almost exactly like the Australian Platinum Edge card, it is a business card and I cannot find a Platinum Edge Business card. I am quite curious now as to what it actually is.
So I guess the best bet is to either call and ask Amex, or look at the mailer that contained the card, which I believe includes the name of the card (verbiage like "Here is your new XXX card") If that has been discarded, wait a few years for the renewal!
It should also be on any statements.
