@isik  I wasn't aware of this offer for BCP, is it targeted?

I think for frugal spenders Cash Back is king, even paying for airline tickets and such. If you don't travel often, really what's the use of accumulating points. Give me hard cash any day! Smiley LOL

Well, some very infrequent travelers may still want "the trip of a lifetime" type thing.  Cashback doesn't work well for first class international airfare (or luxury hotels).  But if you have no interest in such things, and travel infrequently, cashback works well.

Literally just did this.  Nearly 3 years of patient miles/points hoarding.  Roundtrip flight to Europe in first class and almost 2 weeks stay in an amazing hotel.  Nearly every expense paid for or reimbursed with miles/points.  I felt like a Queen for 2 weeks.  Totally worth the cost of annual fees and patience.

I don't know, I guess it is. They have a 15$ total cashback cap. Both are 10% + 1% normal cashback.

Congrats! Did u use Delta card for it? I thought that way of hoarding pts/miles for a big trip was a Disco Miles recipe lol. It's certainly a great way to use it for infrequent travelers for sure!

I had Delta Miles, MRs and Capital One miles.  And I had a fabulous time being spoiled.  I can't always travel like that but it sure is fun when I can.

Re: What's your current card lineup?

The majority of my cards I utilize are reward cards. The return is based redemption rates. The following redemption rates are what I used to calculate my returns: 2 cpp for MR points, 2 cpp for Venture miles, 1.5 cpp for UR points, 1.5 cpp for US Bank RTR.

Gas:  10% Amazon Chase (4th qtr), 5% Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
Groceries:  Amex Gold 8% (4x MR)
Pharmacies:  4.5% Chase Freedom Unlimited (3x UR)
Restaurants:  8% Amex Gold (4x MR) CSR 4.5% (3x UR)

Airfare: 10% Amex Platinum (5x MR)

Travel (non airfare): 4.5% CSR (3x UR)
Target:  5% Target RedCard
Paypal:  7.5% Chase Freedom, Freedom Flex ( 4th qtr)
Office Supply:  7.5% Ink Cash (5x UR)

Cable/internet/streaming: 7.5% Ink Cash

Cellphone:  $120 credit + insurance Amex Business Platinum
Mobile wallet:  4.5% US Bank Altitude Reserve (3x RTR)

Utilities:  5% Elan Max Cash Preferred

Everyday non category:  4% Amex BBP (2x MR),  4% Venture (2x miles), 3% AOD

Re: What's your current card lineup?

  • Discover It Cashback: 5% rotating categories. I use this card mostly for restaurants, gas, and digital wallets (Apple Pay) for 5% cashback. With digital wallets, there is overlap because I can use Apply Pay at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants, too.
  • Affinity Cash Rewards: 5% at Amazon, 2% gas and groceries, and their 5% rotating categories (which also stack) are nice, too.
  • NFCU Flagship Rewards: 2% unlimited non-category cashback and 3% cashback on travel. It has a $49 annual fee, but their sign-up bonus will cover that for the next 7 years. This is my base card when no other card can cover a certain category.
  • AMEX Platinum: On the chopping block. Was initially used for paying for flights. I now use my NFCU Flagship rewards for that.
  • AMEX Blue Cash Preferred: Also on chopping block. This is a very powerful card if you have heavy spending. I would get gift cards (Not VISA) to various merchants at grocery stores for 6% cashback. The 3% cashback for gas is also nice. There are just better cards out there for no annual fee.
  • Apple Pay: Why do I have this card? lol It's a backup 2% cashback card in case NFCU decides to close my Flagship for whatever reason
  • U.S. Bank Cash Plus: Two 5% categories each quarter and one 2% category. I use this for my cable and phone bill, getting 5% back every month. I can buy my next Apple Phone and watch through my cable provider so I can get 5% back on that as well which beats out the Apple Card
  • USAA Preferred Rewards: 1.5% unlimited cashback. On the chopping block. Nothing wrong with the card. I just don't use it.
