Well, some very infrequent travelers may still want "the trip of a lifetime" type thing. Cashback doesn't work well for first class international airfare (or luxury hotels). But if you have no interest in such things, and travel infrequently, cashback works well.
Literally just did this. Nearly 3 years of patient miles/points hoarding. Roundtrip flight to Europe in first class and almost 2 weeks stay in an amazing hotel. Nearly every expense paid for or reimbursed with miles/points. I felt like a Queen for 2 weeks. Totally worth the cost of annual fees and patience.

@isik I wasn't aware of this offer for BCP, is it targeted?
I don't know, I guess it is. They have a 15$ total cashback cap. Both are 10% + 1% normal cashback.

Congrats! Did u use Delta card for it? I thought that way of hoarding pts/miles for a big trip was a Disco Miles recipe lol. It's certainly a great way to use it for infrequent travelers for sure!

I had Delta Miles, MRs and Capital One miles. And I had a fabulous time being spoiled. I can't always travel like that but it sure is fun when I can.
The majority of my cards I utilize are reward cards. The return is based redemption rates. The following redemption rates are what I used to calculate my returns: 2 cpp for MR points, 2 cpp for Venture miles, 1.5 cpp for UR points, 1.5 cpp for US Bank RTR.
Gas: 10% Amazon Chase (4th qtr), 5% Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
Groceries: Amex Gold 8% (4x MR)
Pharmacies: 4.5% Chase Freedom Unlimited (3x UR)
Restaurants: 8% Amex Gold (4x MR) CSR 4.5% (3x UR)
Airfare: 10% Amex Platinum (5x MR)
Travel (non airfare): 4.5% CSR (3x UR)
Target: 5% Target RedCard
Paypal: 7.5% Chase Freedom, Freedom Flex ( 4th qtr)
Office Supply: 7.5% Ink Cash (5x UR)
Cable/internet/streaming: 7.5% Ink Cash
Cellphone: $120 credit + insurance Amex Business Platinum
Mobile wallet: 4.5% US Bank Altitude Reserve (3x RTR)
Utilities: 5% Elan Max Cash Preferred
Everyday non category: 4% Amex BBP (2x MR), 4% Venture (2x miles), 3% AOD
