I'm sure at some point almost all of us have apped for a card thinking we were a shoe in, and somehow got denied.
I apped for a secured discover two years ago and was surprised to get an instant denial.
On a secured card.
what's the denial that shocked you the most.
I had my CapOne QS ($300) for about 18 months before I ever asked for a CLI. Had a solid history with them at this point, almost always PIF every month, and my FICO's had improved about 60 points across the board - no luv. That card still sits at $300. 😂

Amex Delta Sky Miles Blue, Gold, Green and any other card they have. Amex has decided they just don't care for my business. Make plenty of money high 6's and have plenty of spend. I don't carry balances and I refuse to pay interest. They asked for a 4506c couple times and told them to pound sand. Countered with b6 months of CU bank statements and pay stubs to match, they said no. Frankly the cards aren't accepted everywhere and highly overrated.

A couple of months ago out of shear boredom I apped for pre-qualify with Credit One to see the plethora of top notch offerings they had for me.
(I did say shear boredom)
I was immediately flat out denied. I was shocked then I LOLed.

Generally though I reserve my shock for my approvals. I simply expect any application to be a denial.

Well, there were the 3 geo-fenced CU denials that I got trying to sneak under, through, or over the fence......... but those were not shocking, lol.
For me, the one that always stands out and still bothers me to this day is Discover about 10 years ago. Good credit, decent income, I don't think a lot of inquiries at the time, I even had a Discover Chrome in good standing that I had for years prior. Thus, the Discover it Cash Back that you see in my sig is my wife's. When I was denied, I asked her to apply.
Still chaps my hide, lol.

I got in with them eventually, but probably my repeated denials with Discover.
They have this reputation as beginner friendly, but they really didn't/don't like something about my profile.
I got denied for the CSP a couple years ago because I didn't know I was still an authorized user on some of my ex wife's cards and I was over 5/24 as a result. Suppose it was better to find out so I could deal with it, but still didn't see it coming.
