Re: What’s your most shocking denial?

Not on an application, but I had the Fort Knox (now Abound) Visa card for 5% on gas.  I was on a trip, and the card was denied at a gas pump.  Called them and was told my card had been canceled and I'd receive a letter with the reasons.  Apparently, they'd done a normal account review, and they didn't like the amount of credit I had, so they closed my card to reduce their exposure.

@Gregory1776

I have been using CSR and AA Exec since they went 10x using their portals.  Using AA more and getting 32% - 62% on spend,  but if AA doesn't have a hotel I want I'll go the Chase's portal.

I went back to our 2 night stay at the River Street Inn in Savanna and got 59% from stay (438 X 10 plus 10,300 LP = 14,680 miles X 1.77 I get per miles is $260).  Chase would have been 15% - 25%.  AA has been a game changer for me since their 2023 changes.

@redpat

your telling me you got $260 back from a $438 stay?

that's a nice hotel, btw. That's the place like to stay, especially over a chain, where you see or experience basically the same thing.
So this is where booking through a portal could be beneficial? Seeing smaller local spots.

The $260 value is what I get is airline dollars, so yes.  I recently book a flight for 12,000 miles and the cost was $368 but because I have plat pro status I get main plus (which was $472) but the $392 is 3.2 cents per mile which is a great value.  I use a baseline of 1.77 per mile.

I can also redeem for hotel stays but that redemption is only 1.056 cent per mile which would be $155/438 = 35% (need AA status)

That's incredible!
I don't at this point don't spend enough to justify getting into that, but I want to.

I was a "shoe-in" but then I got the boot.  On my second try I was a "shoo-in" and made it.
