When to request Chase CLI?

I got approved for the CSP and Freedom Unlimited back in May w/ decent SL's. How soon can I request a CLI on my sapphire preferred? Will it always be a hard pull for EX and TU? And no, I don't want to move around credit lines or apply for a new card.

You can ask at any time, there will be a HP or two.

They dont have to be the same combo as your approval (Typically TU and EX are pulled when accepting prequalified offer from Credit Journey), but HPs for CLI can land anywhere.

Whether you get one and how much wi depend on your CR and your use of the cards you currently have.

If you're using a small portion relative to CL, I wouldnt hold my breath.

HP CLIs with Chase are a mixed bag, some get nice increase, others get $500.00, and then, there are those who get nothing.

If you arent using a big, hefty chunk of your SL and you dont like wasting HPs, I'd think about it longer, because if they are currently trying to cut unused lines, I dont see them wanting to create new unused lines.

Also, if you are talking about "back in May" and you mean May 2020,  I wouldnt.

Interesting! I was always under the impression that using more than 30% of your overall limit is frowned upon, and a high utilization negatively impacts your CR. So, you're saying the chances of getting a CLI from Chase are higher if it reports a balance of $17,000/18,000 versus $150/18,000? Also, how often does Chase give out auto-CLI's?

I'm only thinking about requesting one because I'm redoing my entire apartment, and don't feel like paying down my balance to $0 everytime I place an order.

Using a substantial portion of a credit line is not necessarily the same as letting that balance report.  Reporting a $17k balance on an $18k card can indeed hurt your scores.  (Fortunately with Chase, any time an account is paid to $0 it will report to the CRAs off-cycle.)

If you're going to be spending much more than $18k for redoing your apartment, you'll need to either split the payment between cards or make payments between charges.  Chase will likely allow you to spend a little over your line since it's a Visa Signature card.  Unless your remodeling is going to code as travel or restaurant spending, you'd be better off to use your Freedom Unlimited though - 50% better to be exact.

Chase auto-CLIs can be quite rare.  I got my first and only one 12 years after opening that account.  If you just got two cards issued by Chase a matter of weeks ago, it is doubtful that a CLI would be given this early on either account.
