Which AMEX should I CLI?

I need a little help figuring out the best method on proceeding with my amex BCE and SPG. I barely scraped in with amex in January with the BCE at a $500 SL, obviously in the "credit steps" given the 5 statement CLI increase e-mail I received. I've definitely put spend through the card and PIF each week since I got it. I'm traveling quite a bit for personal and business this year so I went ahead and app'ed last week for the SPG on Wednesday which was approved for $1k and they overnighted it to me. It arrived Saturday and I'm halfway to my SUB spend already (booked a couple nights at an SPG property for my anniversary next month for the additional points as well!).

My 61 day has already passed on the BCE and I didn't even try for the 60 day 3xCLI. 61 days would be May for the SPG and I'm assuming around June/July I'll get the auto CLI to likely $1k on the BCE. So... my question is- which should I focus on? I'm assuming the SPG and let the BCE get the auto CLI since the SPG probably has more growth potential at this time?

Your preference, but I’d do the SPG.

Same as the previous poster...all of my stay has shifted from Hilton to Marriott so I place a lot of value on the SPG. The 1:3 ratio is pretty decent and all of my non category spend goes on SPG.

Not exactly sure how credit steps works but if you get an auto cli on the BC I'd be tempted to see what that is then shift some limit to the SPG and 3x cli it....If that's possible given the step situation. If not just focus on the SPG and 6 months down the road do another 3x on it. Smiley Happy

Re: Which AMEX should I CLI?

Thanks y’all!
Likely the route I’ll go. Given that I feel I probably barely squeaked through on both cards- no SUB on the BCE and the fact that my discover fetches some decent cash back for a a few months I’m probably better off putting all my Amex spend into the SPG and working on growing it.

For those that are lucky enough to be unfamiliar with “credit steps” The BCE will (or should) get an auto increase after the 5th statement that doubles its whopper $500 limit to $1k. I’m likely better off to hit the 3x cli and actually get it on the SPG than the BCE when the time comes. Hopefully the 3:1 conversion to Marriott points hangs on through 2018 when I book our winter vacation so I can take advantage of that.

I'm in the same boat. Got the ED in Feb (put $2k+ through it in the first month and half) and Hilton in March. I'm hoping my recent approval from Citi will entice AMEX to give me an auto increase early (ED to the SD), then use the 3x on the ED. But, if AMEX doesn't, I'll hold out and use the 3x on the Hilton card.

Just dont be surprised if your 3x cli isnt granted as anticipated. It isnt privy to everyone as the forums may have you to believe. I opened BCE late July and Delta Gold early August. Both SL $1K, neither card has increased to 3x its limit. But I have patience to grow my cards and I'm not in rush. I'm sure they'll grow soon. Hang in there if they arent immediately increased.

I completely. understand that, it's the main reason I didn't even try the 61 day 3xCLI on the BCE even when reading about those in with the "steps" program have gotten it. I'm willing to be patient, but obviously I'd like to try and see if I have a shot. Regardless, I know amex will treat me well eventually.
