I never see anything about this card but it’s clearly a better choice for most people than the QuickSilver or most other 1.5% cards especially for the first year.
Its Discover so it’s a single pull, it should have pretty decent growth potential for most people, the card has cash back match which is essentially 3% for the first year which is only matched by Alliant, and while you earn “Miles,” you can redeem for 1cpp for cash back.
Its also got the same 0% for 14 months that IT does and no FTF or AF.
Is there some big downside to this card I am missing? 3% is incredibly tempting.
Because it's a dud after the first year. I personally dont like temporary cards, however it is a good deal during first year if you want to wait 1 year for the other 50%.

I may get one when I go to buy my new TV next year. 0% for 14 months and 3% back on a $2K-$3K purchase would be worth it IMO, especially since I can shuffle some of my IT limit to the new card.
I get the not liking a temporary card thing, I’m just surprised we don’t see Miles recommended more when people get fed up with their QS/QS1 not growing and can’t get in with NFCU or Chase.
This is honestly the first time I’ve researched this card and I don’t know what it was that I saw that made me aware of its existence either.

Because Disco can be finnicky as hell with regards to their approvals. They're all over the place with granting SLs and CLIs of the auto and user initiated variety. Will say from the recent posts they've gotten better at that.

Is the UW tighter on this card? I didn’t think about that one. If it’s similar to the IT, it makes sense for someone stuck in bucketed purgatory with Cap but if it’s got UW on the level of Chase and other options then yeah, it’s a pretty worthless card when the Cash Magnet is around.
It kind of occupies a no-man's-land to me:
Heavy spenders can use the 3% for a year more than a bonus, but a frequently low SL makes it tricky to do much with the 0%. Or maybe they favor airline miles.
Moderate spenders would rather pick up nice pile of cash back or miles with a $3k-$5k spend requirement.
Lighter spenders would benefit more from an occasional $150 for $500-type requirement.
Lower acceptance and few benefits makes the card weaker than many other 1.5% cards in the long run.
Very valid point about CL and whether said CL would even cover such a purchase of a 3k TV lets say. Discover has no rhyme or reason whom they give good CL's to you very well could end up with a 1k CL or a 12k cl. There are certain cards out there alot being 2% cards that if you have a good profile and supporting income you are more than likely to get a good CL, where-as with Discover pull out your dart board and close your eyes and throw the dart and see where it lands will it be a 1k cl or a 12k cl. I rather go for personally a card maybe with slightly a lesser possible earning potential first year that i know I will get a usable CL and not ping my utilization to max. BTW yes i am biased against discover if you can't tell
No the UW isn't tighter either sub-prime+ to prime borrowers can get approved for it.
also poster above me made a valid point as well i completely forgot about, it is called sign-up bonus which will blow the extra 1% or whatever out of the water as well
I mean with Disco you can reallocate limits from your IT card to a new card so SL isn’t the end of the world for me.
Earning $150 SUB equivalent would be $5000 spend but if it’s competing against another 1.5% card, it’s actually $10000 to get to the same place $5000 would on the card that had the SUB.
So yeah, I guess it’s not as great of a card as it appeared. I saw 0% for 14 and 3% after match and everything else went out the window honestly.
The problem with the 2% cards is no 0% intro period although there have been reports if you checkout with PayPal, you’ll get offered deferred offers on the Cashback card but those are risky on a general spend card since there seems to be no option to choose how payments are applied like you can on Amazon Store Card.
You cannot reallocate limits with Discover if you don't have a CLI available on the card you want to move the limit to so at min. you most likely would have to wait 3 months. Needless to say I have a 800+ score, good income and haven't seen a CLI on my discover card for 6-7 months and my CL is lower the most other peoples newly approved discover card. Do you feel lucky as i don't? . This card certainly works for some, but most of the heavy hitters will go for a card with a lucrative sign-up bonus along with a decent limit. Each profile is different along with the needs of the borrower. What works for some doesn't work for others and vice-versa. Time to count the sheep for me
