Re: Will Discover give a CLI every 91 days if you don't ask?

@Roseyk, I don't know if you've tried phone or chat requests yet. But the CSRs seem to be very nice. I'm not sure how automated the luv button system is, but talking to an actual person might yield more promising results. And if not, you could at least find out why they seem to he so cold with you.

@Doebear, This is great info and also why I like Discover. I must remember to give this a try.

Discover likes heavy spend heavy pay. Even then they give small SL and small CLI the first couple times. My first three CLIs were between 500-2000. The last one I got was sizeable though. I think 4 or 5 k. I use it so much. I love discover. Just be patient, it will grow for sure!

LordMS.... I haven't tried the chat, but I did call a CSR and recieved a lot of I understand, sorry, computer generated, etc, but no concrete explanation.  Mid January is my next 90 day possibility.  I will see what they do, if it's 200 or 500, I will move on.  Thanks!

Thanks KittenAttack.  Happy to know that you have been successful with Discover.  My next 90 days ( the third) will be in mid January and I will see what they do.  If it is the normal 500.00, I will decline it and move on.  However, thanks for your input!

Not in my experience but you need to keep in mind the CLI eligiblity and CLI qualification are two entirely different things.  A creditor may have a policy that you can request or that they'll review for CLI every X timeframe.  However, that's not the same thing as whether or not one qualifies for a CLI.  One's credit and income will determine what one qualifies for.  Don't conflate the two.  You may be able to request a CLI or be considered for a CLI every X months but that doesn't mean that your credit and income will qualify every X months.  CLI's are not simply handed out in exchange for time.

@Anonymous wrote:

I'm wondering if this is the reason I get 500.00 or 200.00 increases.

Nope.  You get the increases that your credit and income qualify for.  The timing of your request does not change your credit profile or your income.

@Anonymous wrote:

The increases are so incredibly small, it's really insulting.  I press the luv button and a instant no, with they want to see how I handle the CLI for 500.00 that they gave me two months ago.  That's so crazy when I pay over 500.00/800.00 per month on my statement.

Insult is your spin on the matter. It's all business and risk analysis with creditors.  They're not singling you out and you're subject to the same underwriting criteria as all other Discover it users.  Usage is not as important as people make it out to be.  Usage may play a small part in some cases with some creditors but the primary factors are credit and income.  Usage will not make or break a CLI on its own.  Additionally, you can't just expect large increases every 91 days (again, it's not just a matter of time) so adjust your expectations.

The results have remained the same, meanwhile I'm getting far better and more exciting increases with other banks.

Underwriting criteria can and does vary by creditor -- and even by product.

Takeshi74....Really?  Your way off on your responses, but it's ok, it's just your opinion.

Re: Will Discover give a CLI every 91 days if you don't ask?

It has been roughly 60 days since my last CLI.  Then they gave me an auto CLI for $500 the day before and then I tried manually, the manual one gave me $1400.  That was my six month increase I suppose.

That was 60ish days ago and I just tried again two days ago and got the two day message.  Logged in this evening to a $1500 increase.  I have had the card since late May and gone from 1500 to 5500 now in that time frame.  I am a big fan of them at this point.  I have a few other 5k cards but now with todays increase Discover is my highest at 5500.  Last month very little spend/almost none on the card, this month so far a ton of swipes but only totaling a couple hundred bucks.  PIF every time.

Fantastic!  You get increases every 60 days.  Stick with them, you'll be up to 10K in no time!

Trying one last time to understand Discover😤😤.  I'm approaching my next 91 days in January and in the past I always initiate the CLI on the 91st day.  I'm wondering if this is the reason I get 500.00 or 200.00 increases.  Please share your experience.  Thanks!

Maybe I missed it, what is your Discover limit now?

+1 to the heavy usage, and to calling in to get that 0% on purchases for a year. However, I had to do my call-in twice, since I confused the CSR the first time by talking about a BT. He never confirmed the 0% 12-month purchase offer at that time, so I had to call back to get the $11 interest reversed, and get the 0% actually in effect. Just keep it simple for the CSR to do one task at a time, and all will be fine. Smiley Happy

As takeshi says, though, usage isn't everything.   I've been putting $12-15K per month on my IT Miles cards, last CLI, $500.

Yeah, no kidding. I've had a Discover since 1996 - it flat-lined at a 16.9k limit for years...

...but two years ago I moved about half of the monthly spend from it to a different card, and in those two years I've seen CLIs of +2k, +3.5k, +2.1k, and +7k.

Go figure. I guess they want the spend back, huh?

Re: Will Discover give a CLI every 91 days if you don't ask?

I started with Disover with 9k limit, the increase was to 11k  This wasn't anything I asked for, just what they gave me.

I'm still in 0% I think after 0 I go to 11.99% which isn't too bad.  Anyway my spends and pays are quite heavy. I tend to pay about 500-800 at a time, which is probably why they like me so much.   A few times I've paid higher.
