Re: Winning Amex probation...

I run a reoccurring bill through mine ($20 per month). That's about all I will do with it until the CL grows. My 5th statement just cut a few days ago and my CL was doubled from $500 to $1000. It's a starter card so I don't plan to see huge results in CLI in a short period of time. I've marked my calendar for six month from now and I will hope for a 3x at that time.

Oh so you received your CLI a few days after your 5th statement?  I, and others who have posted their experience, didn't receive it til after paying on the 6th -- it's also stated that way in the T&C email.  Interesting -- good for you!

Re: Winning Amex probation...

Credit mom, you can ask sooner as I understand that auto CLIs don't count towards waiting 6 months. Even if you are ineligible it doesn't count as being declined and start a mandatory waiting period again.

Re: Winning Amex probation...

One thing ill add, with Amex sometimes it truely is YMMV. just an example the sis of one of Cl's did get a 3x increase while on credit steps. I think some people may confuse what many of you got with your credit steps verbiage and a low sl such as $500 or $1k. But MG did specifically mention her sis was on credit steps. If you feel your profile has grown significantly before the end of 6 months, you may try for a 3x at the apptopriate time. Just a thought. Good thread OPSmiley Happy

Re: Winning Amex probation...

I asked for a CLI at 65 days and was denied. The CLI from 500 to 1000 was not auto - I requested it a few days after the 5th statement cut. Sorry, I should've been more clear.

On another note, i was approved on the same day for for the Blue Cash and Everyday. Both 500 limits in the Steps program, both with the same terms. My request for CLI on the Everday was denied because I received the CLI on the Blue Cash. So, the 180 CLI rule trumps the Steps terms.

I think you should just do whatever makes the most sense for your valet. As somebody said to me ( pretty sure it was BBS), "I'd hate to leave money on the table".
Use it to your advantage, and as long as pay your bill, Amex is going to be happy.

Re: Winning Amex probation...

My first amex card was on credit steps with 500sl. I did not know and did not follow the steps. I used it alot and pif without statement balance. I ended up getting my 3x cli at 60 days and a 2nd one too. So it may be best to just disregard the credit steps, worked for me.

Re: Winning Amex probation...

That's awesome! I'll just play by their rules and make it the reporting AZEO card. I'll still ask at 61ish days though for 3x. Whats the worst they can do, say no? If it goes to 1.5 or 1 at 61 days I can triple it 180 later and end up with 3 to 4.5k. If they say no maybe I'll end up at 3k right after the auto. Either way not a bad deal.
