Still searching for a starter card for my brother, EQ Fico8 is 713, TU is 719. 0 Inq, 0% utilization 0/8000 AU BBR.
I know Navy will HP for the membership (he does qualify) but what's their stance on thin files?? He's an AU on my card so his oldest credit line is only 9 months old, wouldn't want to waste not one but two HP if they don't like thin files (although they approved me with 14 months history).
I probably wouldn't risk the HP's if it were me. Go with Cap1 or even Chase. I got my Chase FU at 6 months of history from a card reporting as secured.
They are good for people who are in the rebuilding stage or just plain building. Profile doesnt have to be perfect to be accepted just dont expect a robust CL to start and wait a minimum of 6 months before you even try a CLI. The AR after 3 months is always a hit or miss depending on your profile. Your credit score and UTI has no effect like some believe.
I could go into detail but I would hate to write novels on all the info on trial and errors from all the info I got on here and what has worked and what clearly hasnt worked.
But I can say from all the NFCU info I have read the more I read the more diluted it is becoming. They are one the easiest CU that I know of and are by far one of the better one for rebuilding or starting compared to others. NFCU was a better building block than the regular banks out there to start.
@Credittony,
I was certainly looking for a similar answer such as this for NFCU cards also. So thank you very much for your infomation. I dont have a clean file but I have 2 cards that are charged off with not so high scores, I'm also a new NFCU member and I joined because I'd like to take advantage of their cards as well. I was wondering if I should wait until I pay off my 2 charged off cards (one will be done in June, the other may take longer, maybe end of the year) before I apply to navy?
