X1 vs Amazon card

Hey guys - do any of you X1 cardholders ever get boosts for Amazon purchases and how often these boosts occur?  I've read a lot of promotional material but want to hear it straight from actual cardholders.  I wanted an X1 card but am starting to wonder if the wait would even be worth how much I've missed out on Amazon.  I spend about 36k/year on Amazon through my business.  I'm just afraid of getting the Amazon card, then getting denied for X1 for having just opened a new account.  I'm only on the fence because of the other small perks of X1 for example being a Visa card and being able to use at Costco...and those boosts sound so promising...  (Hubby has the Costco card so I don't want to open a second one).  🤔

Re: X1 vs Amazon card

If it's any indication I have an X1 card and keep an Amazon Card on hand.

Be it the Synchrony store card, Chase Visa, AMEX business cards or Affinity FCU card...I'd pick one up if you use Amazon Prime at least.

Hey OP,

I don't know much about X1 ... but if you do use amazon much I would use caution depending on you do at Amazon. The sync, Chase, Amex, and AFCU do offer that CB ... but be careful. Some of them don't offer the correct CB if you are using Amazon Pay (from 3rd party sites like twitch) or purchasing from Prime Video area.

If you spend that much at Amazon, I don't think you can afford not to get the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card (or Amazon Business Prime Amex Card).  You should have gotten it yesterday!

I'm not sure what % back you get now with your method of payment at Amazon but getting 5% CB on $36k is $1800!

Take your 5% earning/points as statement credit, don't use them for checkout purchases.  If you use your points for Amazon purchases, you won't be getting 5% on those purchases, effectively making your Amazon card a 4.75% card instead of 5%.

Make sure you are using an Amazon Smile account.  Smiley Wink

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: X1 vs Amazon card

Thanks everyone!

The reason I never jumped on Amazon sooner was because 1) I was thinking of possibly buying a home this year and didn't want to apply for anything, 2) of the 5/24 rule I thought Chase would apply on the Amazon Visa...and I didn't want just the store card.  Now that I know I am not moving for a while...I wanted to take some action...I really want to know how often those "boosts" happen on Amazon purchases to see if it's worth applying for.  Right now my favorite cash back cards for Amazon is the 5% I get from Discover for a quarter of each year, and my Venmo Visa (1-3% depending on what I used the card for that month).

Since I make heavy purchases outside of just Amazon...I was trying to avoid a card specific to a certain retailer if I could...just trying to justify if X1's boosts make it worth the pull.  🤔  Yes I am being stingy with my inquiries...because I still want to entertain the thought of moving.  🙄

Re: X1 vs Amazon card

I have the X1 and my Amazon boosts are 3x points. I can use them 3 times before they go away.  They come back sporadically it is not constant, again at least for me.  You might be better off with a real Amazon rewards card? Good luck on whatever you choose.

Re: X1 vs Amazon card

The "boost" aren't typically Amazon specific. What you often get is say 100 extra points on a purchase of $100 or more or 3x points on your next drugstore purchase. If you do a lot of shopping on Amazon and want rewards for it, you really need an Amazon card to do it properly.

An X1 card is not a replacement for an Amazon specific card. 5% CB on every purchase anywhere in the Amazon ecosystem is better than random points "boost" that may or may not always be available.

As for the mortgage...just make sure your newest inquiry is 121 days old or older before you submit an application and you'll be more than fine. I picked up a new credit card the day before I applied for my mortgage it was literally no big deal at all, didn't affect anything.

Re: X1 vs Amazon card

Okay guys!  I know my Amazon spend is huge but I spend on other things in gargantuous amounts, too...so I pushed the apply button and sent my statements.  Smiley Happy  Thank you all so much!!!  The info on 121 days before mortgage apps was especially key for me.  Smiley Happy

Re: X1 vs Amazon card

I need the X1 card, and I saw earlier a moderator topic talking about the invites sharing.
Is there a way I can get the X1 card without having to wait for too long? I completed the waitlisting form already.
