Zync app - in progress

So I decided that the only way I'm really going to get my foot in the door with Amex is by applying for a Zync. I have all my reports frozen, but I unlocked my EX report just for that pull. So they pulled that, and I got a "Please contact us" message, and it shows the application as being in progress.

Now, from my previous experience, I'm assuming they're going to want me to let them pull all 3. Sorry, nope, not happening. I'm not dealing with Capital One-type inquiries, especially not from Amex. So once I call them tomorrow, that's what I'm going to tell them - I'm not letting them hit me with 3 inquiries just so they can then deny my application.

Has anyone had any experience dealing with that with Amex? I'm assuming they're just going to cancel the application at that point. But I'm simply not willing to let them pull my TU since I want to keep my inquiries to a minimum. Is it possible to get them to consider the app without pulling all three?

I keep hearing that people only get EX pulled, but every time I've applied for Amex so far, they always seem to want to go for all three, for whatever reason.

It might be just to verify your identity?

I applied in December and they only pulled EX.

Re: Zync app - in progress

It could be, but last time I applied (for a BCE that time), they insisted on pulling all 3. A year ago (before I knew what I was doing) I applied a few times, and they pulled all 3 each time. I was assuming that since my credit profile looks waaaaay better now, they would be happy with just EX.

But if they're going to try to go for all 3 again, no thanks. I'll just take that one inquiry and cut my losses there.

I feel like if they wanted to pull all three, they would have just declined you for not having access to all of your accounts at the time of the pull.

I'm also thinking they may just want to confirm your identity.

You'd think that, right? Except last time my TU was frozen, and I got a similar message - and when I called in to find out what was up, I had some Peggy tell me I needed to unfreeze my TU report. I let it slide that time, and got another HP and a decline. I'm just not letting them do that again, especially since Zync is their worst card.

Re: Zync app - in progress

People have been getting Zync with lower scores than you have, so maybe everyone is right. The only way to tell is wait until tomorrow. I hope you get it!

Are you expecting to be declined because you were previously? I know that's my apprehension, too. Smiley Frustrated Just curious as to why you feel so certain that you're going to be denied... or that they're going to pull all 3 reports. I've actually not heard of them doing that, but then I don't read ALL of the posts, so I probably missed it. Smiley Surprised I have heard occasionally of someone having 2 pulls from Amex.

I don't blame you for not wanting 3 HPs. That's why I'll not get another Cap One. At least if they could soft the others, it wouldn't be bad. The bummer is that you will have gotten a HP for nothing, if you don't let them do it. Maybe if your CR is vastly improved, you will be approved this time. Let us know. Smiley Happy

Re: Zync app - in progress

I'm expecting to get declined since it's Amex. That's really the main reason.

As far as them pulling all 3.. they've done it to me 3 (or maybe 4, I don't remember) times already. Everyone else seems to get one pull on EX, but they like to go all CapOne on me.

It is possible they wanted all 3 because you were applying for a revolving credit card. I think they just want to verify Identity.
