Fico friends! I just asked for a CLI increase on one of my two BOA CCs.
(In part because, good news, now that card is telling me I have a BTO. Phew!!!!!!! sigh of relief as I plan my balance transfer dance.)
My motivation is just to maximize the amount of CL I have to keep my balance transfer under 47% of the total CL, so ideally I don't have to apply for another BT CC when it's time to do my next BT.
I was bold and asked for $25k. (My scores just hit 775 so I am feeling emboldened, and also, I figure they can always counteroffer).
It went to review, telling me I should hear in 7-10 days.
Is it a good idea or bad idea to ask for a separate CLI increase on my other BOA CC?
With BoA, it going to the 7-10 day thing is likely bad news.
Also, no issue with asking for a CLI on each card, I got a CLI on both of my cards a couple of months ago.
You can also call them and move credit limits around to help with utilization on the card with the BT.
Something to note, it is unusual for BoA to grant a total limit across all personal cards with them that is more than 50% of stated income, or $99.9k, whichever is lower.
Personally, I would wait until you get a decision on your current application before making any further requests.

Not necessarily, that's the boilerplate response when the BoA autobot refers a CLI request for manual review.
If the CL on the card in question hasn't been updated by the close of the next business day however the odds are high though that it will be a denial. On the other hand, if it does change and you have multiple BoA cards you should check the CL of the other cards to check whether or not all or part of the limit increase was due to them silently transferring limit over from another BoA card.

I don't know the answer to your question but I can relate my experience with BOA.
I had a total of 5 cards, 2 personal, 3 business. I kept getting CLI's. They were my most generous lender. One day, when I was up to 100k total limits, they closed all 5 of my accounts, saying I had enough available credit. So my inclination would be to tread lightly.
I've always done that. Asking on two cards, usually I'll get a CLI on one, occasionally both. On the occasions where I've asked for a 20K or more CLI, it's been denied. But when I ask for a 10K CLI, they've been happy to counter with 9.9K. If it's denied, I try again in like a week or two.

Wow, that was harsh!
Thank you so much everyone for your wisdom and help here.
The initial request was denied, I haven't gotten the letter yet.
At @Xanthos472 's suggestion, I waited a week and then tried again. I got the "you will hear in 7-10 days" message again.
I thought they might be more amenable to doing a credit line increase on the card that has a larger line ($21.6k) so I requested an increase to $28.6 k -- which is only a 7k total increase (not the $24k I asked for last time), and just under the $29k CL I have at BECU (my largest line), so they can see in my file there's some precedent for a line almost that high.
If that doesn't work, I think I'll reallocate some of the large line card to the small line card and try again on the small line card. I sense they may be more comfortable doing something line raising $10k to $15k, as opposed to raising $1k to $25k, which was what I asked for the first time, and probably wasn't particularly strategic. But I just thought I was being bold! You live you learn!
If you need more detail, there's one card with a 6719 balance out of 21,600 total CL
and a second card with a 0 balance out of 1,000 total CL.
Thoughts and suggestions? My motivation is just to be able to maximize a BTO that's already there on one of the cards, by increasing the line, so I can use it more. Ideally be able to do most or all of my next round of upcoming BTs without applying for a new card.

There's a saying among southerners that goes "Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered."
It means if you ask for too much it's more likely to end badly for you just as a pig that fatttens itself up more than the rest is the first one to go.
Banks are already tightening up and circling the wagons and hitting people they've never had a problem with before with demands for tax transcripts. I'd be disinclined to ask for too much until this bad economy thing blows over.
