Yes, thats the one that gets the most compliments. The rep is always like omg! this is so cool lol...The Older women at Fred Meyer's think the Simmons First looks like some romance book cover.
This is exactly why I cannot bring myself to app for some cards, that flowery font just kills me. It's awful. I think I read a romance novel when I was 13, I chalk it up to youthful stupidity. I'm sure if a card gave me 50% cash back, was bright pink and had that romance novel style lettering I COULD talk myself into it. Well, and then I could add my husband as an AU and purposefully ask him to buy stuff for me
If it were 50% back (and if I cared about card appearance) I could probably pretty quickly delude myself that the design was really neat, that the bright pink makes it easy to find among the other cards etc!

And you dont think the Target card looks tacky? It looks like dollar store wrapping paper! hehe
The BoA card does look very patriotic tho.
I think the kind of wows I want are not the ones where people open big eyes and make loud comments due to colorful design or weight. It's like wearing a bright pink outfit to the funeral. Yes it's wow. But?
The WOW factor I want are the ones that people say WOW inside and feel compelled to give postive response. Warren Buffet carries an AMEX.
I bet people are saying WOW inside but not a word outloud.
Bottomline is a wow response to a VISA card with Bart Simpson logo is very different from a WOW response for carrying AMEX where the receptionist know not to give you Sh$t.

I REALLY think you are overdoing the amount of respect an Amex commands! Lots of people on this forum, including those with scores in the high 600s and "moderate" income have Amexs. Clerks/check-in staff etc must see tons of these per day, and must be aware it isn't all that special

LT you are correct in fact. But in the real world it's the perception that matters.
The perception for AMEX is still very different for the mass. I'm not referring to those on this forum. I am talking about the rest of the 300 million Americans.
Isn't the why companies spend so much on marketing? It's never about reality. You want water or you want EVIAN? You want banana or you want Dole? You want a computer or Dell?

I agree that the general public may still be overly impressed, but not sure what that gains. The servers, clerks etc, those who can do something for you, soon get a better picture of how common it is, and it ceases to have a wow factor for them.

For me at least it gets me better service. Granted it might also be my good looks. But doubtful.
I counted how many times I received "sir" as a response when using my AMEX vs. VISA and I'm sticking to AMEX.
It is very different from, "Hey man! How's it going?"

evian is filtered tap water, still water either way.....Dole imports the same bananas under many names they are in fact all the same.....a dell is the most proprietary computer money can buy! i could careless about what someone believes their card is worth just give me the cash back
