chase second recon?

i reconned a CLI decline with chase (backdoor number), and was denied again. i tried calling back (as i've heard advice to do so) and the second credit analyst said i already reconned and couldn't again. i asked for further explanation.

both of the analysts were terse and short with me and didn't ask questions about my income or anything remotely like the other good experiences people have had. my 30 days are not up yet - should i call for a recon again and explain i've paid down both of my balances? or is it fruitless because i've already been told they know i did it once (and probably know i did it again).

has anyone run into the "you already reconned" comment from the credit analyst when calling back? and is this either on a CLI decline or a new card decline?

Re: chase second recon?

Hi d09,

I, too have been declined on a 2nd reconsideration for a card with Chase. At this point, it may be best for you to move on. I applied for CITI and was approved instantly. They also offer an attractive 0% for 12 months right now. It appears as though CITI's qualifications are more easy going than Chase Manhattan. Good luck!

Re: chase second recon?

Sorry to hear about your denial d. I haven't read much about multiple recons. Did they pull a second hard? You could always try doing another recon.

Re: chase second recon?

no, they didn't pull a second hard. i just read here that multiple people have done three or more recons and i'm guessing the credit analyst did NOT bring up the fact they had multiple previous recons, and I'm wondering why the credit analyst I spoke with did bring that up.

I'm also wondering if this is because I was transferred to the CLI denial recon line and they're just meaner than they are on the CC denial recon line? I didn't get asked a series of nice questions about my HHI (coincidentally quite large) or my credit report (no baddies - the only problem at the time was high util but I was still well in the 700's, 734 FICO on TU which they pulled). They felt adequate credit was extended because I wasn't using their card continuously. I used it for a while, saw no LUV or product promotions, and stopped using it for a few months. I PC'd to a freedom and am beginning to use it again for small purchases with very low util.

They also complained about 'balances reporting' on my World MC and American Express cards. Well, of course there are balances reporting! I use the cards regularly because I need them. High HHI is how I pay them off. *sigh* I clearly either don't fully understand FICO scoring or these people are giving me the run around because I don't use their card as much as my Citi and Amex.

I only used the card a few hundred dollars out of $3K because I don't want to screw my util. I'm still within my 30 days, so I *can* call again, I think, without triggering another hard.

*sigh* I guess it's just a matter of time, spreading my spending more evenly and having very low balances report for a while...

Re: chase second recon?

One company (not ccc) I worked at where we dealt with a lot of customer service issues, we had something called "contact notes". We were supposed to fill them out every time we talked to someone about a particular person/policy. Maybe the first CSR was mean and thorough... :-(

Re: chase second recon?

I don't really know if Chase gets too intrusive on their recon by again asking HHI or things like that.  you put that on your CLI increase app to begin with.  The Chase computer system denied me instantly onine.  I called and talked to a rep and explained that I wasn't happy with Chase and they should be happy with me considering I had 4-year old perfect payment history auto loan and 8-month perfect history credit card.  She put me on hold and pulled the report that was used on the CLI increase application and took me from $300 limit to $1,000.  I asked for 2K on the denial, so I figure it had to do with the amount I requested originally.  What did you request?

Conventional wisdom around here is 3X your CL.  I requested more on the off-chance they would approve me for more than that.  I figured if I got denied, I could have a human look at it and it paid off.

Yes, same thing happened to me last week.  I think they now have realtime updates in their comments page for the credit analysts.  The second lady I talked to said "you just called a few minutes ago" (lol).  I said, Yeah I was hoping to get a different result from you...lol. I still got the decline though.  I have 2 Chase accounts, both have only been open about 3-4 months so I expected the No for the CLI.  My first Chase card I think I reconned 3 times and got it on the third try.  I wouldn't hesitate to call back though.  I'm just waiting on the letter and I'm going to try to reconn that...lol. I already spent the points for the inquiry, might as well get my points worth Smiley Tongue.
