WOW! thats a huge cli from discover bank. i received a cli from them after a hard pull and analyst, but only received 1500.
Yeah I just made a very strong case why I wanted $10k and the rep agreed, but he did tell me how conservative Discover is and how they want to see more tenure.

$5k and one card is at $17k.
well i am glad that worked. it is encouraging. i am beginning to wonder about Discover Bank. all the other banks offer 1% cash back from the start. they want you to push 3k through before they even honor 1% (0.25% before 3k). and then you can only get 5% spending only 300 dollars of purchase per quarter. that bull. there customer service is the best, but really... i am starting to have second thoughts about them. they float pending purchases for way too long. i suppose i could go on. I feel like i am being played. it is insulting. i only have loyalty because of their cash over, their customer service, and the positive impact they have on my report.

They told me they are working on the pending transactions problem. But i just realized their discover is only .25 for the first 3k not in the 5% category. Wow didn't know that. So they are pretty much only good for the categories or for gas or restaurants if you have the gas card.
Maybe it all evens out though, especially the redeem gift cards 45 for a 50 and sometimes people say they come out with better deals.
They also gave me double cash back for my birthday month... and 2% cash back for amazon up to 250 in purchases this month.
Plus, just got a friend to sign up and I got a 50 dollar referal bonus!
edit - I get 15% cash back from groupon and 20% cash back from restaurant.com . Two of the best ways to use your discover card! I believe it is worth it just for those deals.
Just like everything else in life, you've got to look at your options.
The .25% on the first 3k amounts to $22.50 per year that you don't get if you used a 1% cashback card from the get go.
IMO, the other conveniences/perks/rewards of this card far outweigh this scrooge on the first 3k, if you actually use the card and look for the deals.
Just my two cents worth (for which you now owe me a nickel...but I'll give you 2.5% in rewards!)
(Just funnin' with ya!)

Like $20 for $25 gift cards, which is a better deal.
well i did get a 40 shell gas card on 20 dollars earned. and for some reason, i thought i was getting 1% everywhere else, but was not. and the quarterly caps suck. i guess it is loyalty that is a much larger factor into the appreciation and value of the card.

To be honest, I use it mostly on the 5% categories only. As I don't spend that much in general, it works for me. As I need only $20 for a gift card, that is still often enough. At the moment, I'm using the card a bit more, because I am supposed to get $75 extra for spending more than $500 on the card for three consecutive months, which is not too bad.
