Chip & pin sounds a lot easier!  Walmart has to be inserted correctly or it will not read.  This one is the PITB.

There is almost no added security for ANYONE if merchants do not force the chip to be read, as fraudsters can just use their freshly skimmed magnetic stripes. Chip-read enforcement is one of the most critical security functions, far from 'weird' at all. I'm glad it sounds like Walmart is starting to enforce it!

It depends on the terminal, some you can't insert until the transaction is totalled, others (like Walmart) you can. Of course, the transaction must be complete before you remove it.
