At the consumer level, it is perplexing to maybe realize that there is more than One bank issuing the same card for the same airline.

Think there are 3 banks isnt it barclays, citi and one in puertro rico as well?
The article mentions "porting" over Barclays...so I am assuming if this happens, Barclays Card Holders Accounts would go to Citi and if a Citi account exists...would they merge to one, or have 2? Haven't experienced this before. Not sure if I'd prefer that Barclays keeps it and makes it something else. Time will tell....

Need more AA miles and eligible to get more need to cancel barclay's aviator card if this is going to happens
If AA leaves Barclays, then maybe we wont have to listen to several sales pitches during each trip. Last trip I took on AA I recall hearing 4 pitches just on one flight. I guess thats what happens when you give flight attendents a bonus for every person that gets approved

Through Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, but the card IIRC is only available to residents of the US Virgin Islands.
Still in negotiations...
"American Airlines is in talks to make Citigroupits exclusive credit card partner, dropping rival issuer Barclays from a partnership that dates back to the airline’s 2013 takeover of US Airways, said people with knowledge of the negotiations"
