My acct was frozen for a FR earlier this year and all I had to do is proved proof that it was me that opened the acct. They told me that they were concerned by the amount of new credit I had compiled in the last 6 month ($75K). I have CLEAR and the only thing I now run through it is my CreditSecure payment.

Was it a full bend-over-and-cough FR, or was it a freeze while they verified your identity?

It was frozen until they verified my identity.  If they do the full FR it won't be a problem as I stated my correct income.
It will be interesting though because 2/3 of my income comes from military entitlements and are not reported on my taxes.

Re: AMEX FR Explained

I think there's a difference between a freeze to confirm your identity and an actual FR (financial review.) Either are pretty annoying though, so of course, that's why we all carry back-up cards.

I'm delighted to have my CCC's make sure that my CC's really are mine, but I'd be pretty annoyed if they just slammed them shut without warning. Part of the deal on identity, though, I suppose.

Re: AMEX FR Explained

I am of the opinion that if a CCC is worried you might not be who you say you are then they should not issue a card in the first place. Once you have them convinced enough that they issue you plastic with your own number and let you activate it they shouldn't suddenly get panicked without a good reason.

This is yet another example of why I will probably never get an Amex card. There are plenty of other prime banks out there that will treat you with respect if you never cause them any trouble.

Re: AMEX FR Explained

After reading this really good thread I'm with the others that don't want a AMEX now.  That might change one day but not right now.  I understand what AMEX is trying to do on their part but I don't need a company bugging me to prove my identity and/or my income when they should've done that before offering me credit.
